An Evening With Pat Metheny

An Evening With Pat Metheny
PAT METHENY was born in Lee's Summit, MO on August 12, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, receiving valuable on-the bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility -a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. With the release of his first album, Bright Size Life (1975), he reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny's versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny's body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre.
As well as being an accomplished musician, Metheny has also participated in the academic arena as a music educator. At 18, he was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than twenty years later (1996). He has also taught music workshops all over the world, from the Dutch Royal Conservatory to the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to clinics in Asia and South America. He has also been a true musical pioneer in the realm of electronic music, and was one of the very first jazz musicians to treat the synthesizer as a serious musical instrument. Years before the invention of MIDI technology, Metheny was using the Synclavier as a composing tool. He also has been instrumental in the development of several new kinds of guitars such as the soprano acoustic guitar, the 42-string Pikasso guitar, Ibanez's PM series jazz guitars, and a variety of other custom instruments.
It is one thing to attain popularity as a musician, but it is another to receive the kind of acclaim Metheny has garnered from critics and peers. Over the years, Metheny has won countless polls as "Best Jazz Guitarist" and awards, including three gold records for (Still Life) Talking, Letter from Home, and Secret Story. He has also won 20 Grammy Awards spread out over a variety of different categories including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition at one point winning seven consecutive Grammies for seven consecutive albums. In 2015 he was inducted into the Downbeat Hall of Fame, becoming only the fourth guitarist to be included (along with Django Reinhardt, Charlie Chrisitan and Wes Montgomery) and it's youngest member. Metheny has spent much of his life on tour, often doing more than 100 shows a year since becoming a bandleader in the 70's. At the time of this writing, he continues to be one of the brightest stars of the jazz community, dedicating time to both his own projects and those of emerging artists and established veterans alike, helping them to reach their audience as well as realizing their own artistic visions.

The Wedding Present

The Wedding Present

"The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the Rock 'n' Roll Era. You may dispute this, but I'm right and you're wrong!" John Peel

The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles… not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry's game. It all started in 1985 when David Lewis Gedge boarded a National Express coach in London with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother's suitcases and, in this fashion, delivered the band's debut single GO OUT AND GET 'EM BOY! to a distribution company in Yorkshire. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band's philosophy ever since. From GEORGE BEST, "an unmitigated delight" [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own.

Green Velvet

Never one to rest on success, Green Velvet has had a fascinating career spanning many different monikers, sounds, and performance styles. We at 3DMentional are excited and proud to announce this prolific artist's first ever visit to Dayton!

On August 12, we are happy to bring his unique brand of dance music to Club Masque's thunderous second floor. For over 25 years, the multi-faceted artist has explored just about every corner of the techno and Chicago House spectrum, yet continues to innovate, inspire, and crush dancefloors in his wake.

This dedication to the exploration of dance music is something that resonates with us at 3DMentional, and we are excited to bring this experience to our city for the very first time.

****** GREEN VELVET ******

Change has been a constant theme throughout the successful career of Green Velvet, but as he has crossed genres, explored themes from the comedic to the serious and changed monikers, the common thread running through the music he has made for nearly two decades is its roots in and dedication to the Chicago House sound.

His first transformation came when he left master's degree studies in chemical engineering at UC-Berkeley to turn a hobby into a career making music, influenced by the sounds he had been exposed to as a science-fiction-loving, video-game-playing kid whose father was a part-time Chicago DJ.

As Cajmere, he released his inaugural Underground Goodies EP in 1991 on his Cajual label, keeping true to the early House sound. He quickly followed it up the next year with the smash hit "Coffeepot (It's Time for the Percolator)."

Not one to rest on his success, he soon changed things up, teaming with vocalist Dajae for "Brighter Days," a more mellow House tune, this one released by Emotive. That pairing would be his last with a female vocalist until his recent partnership with rapper Kid Sister for "Everybody Wants."

The 17 years in between those two projects witnessed an incredible array of electronic music emanating from this prolific artist, as well as a second label under his direction, Relief. Adopting the persona Green Velvet (not to mention a Day-Glo shock wig) for his techno-oriented pieces and DJ appearances, he became the champion of new wave Chicago beats through the '90s — known best for hits such as "Preacher Man," "Flash" (a No. 1 U.S. dance hit in 1995), and 1997's laugh-inducing "Answering Machine."

The decade ended with his first album, Constant Chaos in 1999. The new century brought a compilation album, Green Velvet, during a brief signing with Warner Bros. Records' short-lived F-111 imprint, and a production album, Whatever, on Relief. The punk-inspired Whatever explored darker themes than his previous work, including racism ("When?"), drug use ("Genedefekt" and "La La Land"), alienation ("Sleepwalking") and bending to authority ("Gat").

"La La Land" went on to become by far the biggest selling track of his career. His live act expanded as he began playing a keytar, with two other musicians — Nazuk and Spaceboy — backing him, playing heavily distorted synths.

The last decade also saw Green Velvet become a fan favorite across Europe, playing to huge crowds at festivals in addition to live radio appearances and club gigs. Numerous side projects and remixes under various names also added to his seemingly nonstop musical output.

In 2005, Green Velvet released his third album, Walk In Love, which stayed true to the House sound, with a few pop- and punk-oriented tracks for good measure, including "Come Back" and "Pin-Up Girl," both of which featured a live guitarist.

The following year marked a significant change in his personal life, as Green Velvet revealed he had become a born-again Christian after an overdose of so-called recreational drugs. His music since then has reflected his conversion and new attitude on life, including the single "Shake and Pop," and 2007's online-only track "Love Peace, Not War," a short ditty in response to the war in Iraq.

The ongoing evolution in the music, career and life of the artist born Curtis Alan Jones in Chicago has been and will continue to be fascinating to watch and experience for his many followers.

Cheap Essay Writing Service in Australia

Whenever students like you think of the term 'do my essay', it is nothing but craving for professional assistance. There is nothing wrong with taking assistance from professionals while writing your essay. Professional writers provide high quality content within their essay help material that you can blindly refer to anytime. Since they are veterans in their field, they know the tricks of the trade and how to work on any essay help material. The essay can be a general essay or custom essay. It can be for any purpose like a college essay, homework essay or other categories. You should just be careful about one thing that the essay help brand of your choice should provide services at cheap prices.

A cheap essay writing service must not mean that its writers will provide you with low-quality essay help. The term means that the service should provide top class quality essay help material but at cheap prices. Usually, it is hard to find such a service since many people believe that the price and content quality are inversely proportional to each other. Now times have changed, especially in Australia. Many budding writers want to build a brand that can acquire a huge customer base. The base can contain mainly of students like you who desperately need essay help.

When you search 'write my essay', then a number of essay writing service sites appear in front of you. Many such brand sites are from Australia itself. Avoid being confused and going for a site without checking how much viable it is for you. Even if an Australian essay help service looks attractive in terms of its services, it may prove to be quite expensive.

Here are some features that you can find within an Australian essay help service company that is cheap yet genuine:

* Dynamic Interface: A genuine essay help service always supports a dynamic site for its audience. They may claim to provide essay help services at cheap prices, but impressive presentation is always on their agenda. They know that an unimpressive static site will drive away their potential customers. Hence, they design an interface that you and many other Australian students can like.

* All time chat support team: There may be moments when you may not find the essay brand's service prices as cheap as they claim. If the brand has a chat support system, you can contact the brand to negotiate the prices. Genuine brands always have talented back office support staff who can address all the pricing issues through chat.

* Serious about deadlines: Cheap essay help services should not ignore deadlines. Such a callous attitude reflects unprofessionalism that genuine brands avoid. Bonafide essay help services from Australia will always provide you essay help at cheap prices and prior to the deadline.

* Guaranteed privacy: It's always good for genuine brands to be cheap regarding their prices rather than the behavior. Genuine brands will ensure that the essay help services provided to you is not shared by them to any other source. This can help them to maintain the quality of the service even at cheap prices.

* Transparent pricing policy: Brands that claim to provide cheap essay help always display a clear cut pricing policy regarding their services. They never levy hidden charges that can make the prices expensive.

Hi, my self Alina Anderson, my interest is to write on different subjects, like do my essay for me and Australian Essay Writing Service. I am also doing freelance essay writing for some of the site from which students can buy essay assignment.

Joseph Arthur

Joseph Arthur
14+ event • Upstairs bar at The Bodega

Thursday 10th November 2016
Supported by: t.b.c.
Doors open: at 7:00pm

JOSEPH ARTHUR

When I first heard Jo's music, his lyrics jumped out at me. I love his words, love his music. It's great to see some of his best written work assembled. His words rattle and rumble and prise open the cage.  • Peter Gabriel, musician

To riff off a riff; to update Ginsberg's holy HOWL; to stand this naked; to wrestle an attention deficit world into a moment's shivering standstill, just for a spiked breath of reflection: Wow. Joseph Arthur writes, builds, paints, draws, and creates because he has no choice. It is our luck that he does so.  • Michael Stipe of REM

Being around Jo makes me want to create. That's all. That's everything.  • Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam and RNDM

Joseph Arthur is one of those rare artists who does it all—he makes you think, makes you look at the word differently, makes your heart sing, makes your soul weep. The sublime "I Miss The Zoo" will make you wax nostalgic and rethink the obvious. Do not miss it.  • Harlan Coben, NY Times best-selling author

"A poet, an artist and a modern day troubadour."   • Uberrock.co.uk

"His influences are plain enough - Dylan, Waits, Cobain - but by the end of the record, he sounds like nobody but himself; dark, lovelorn and clever."   • The Observer

"Joseph Arthur's an oddball songsmith who weaves words, guitars and a whole heap of discordant sounds into songs that hang around your head long after they finish. The sound is spooked, widly introspective, yet wide open enchanting. Arthur writes melodies, chorus, bridge - real songcraft - while sounding like everything just fell into place. Beautifully produced (T-Bone Burnett, take a bow) and boasting a subtle imaginative stylistic mix, Joseph Arthur is an American original and head 'n' shoulders above the likes of Beck."
  • Uncut

"Put simply, Joe's sickeningly talented."
  • The Independent

"Joseph Arthur is a long-term disrupter and a challenger of the norms. He is possibly the most talented musician of the last twenty years in the US"   • Huffington Post

If anyone is truly deserving of the title of 'artist', it's the mercurial talent that is Joseph Arthur. He's been unleashing material for over a decade and a half, his sheer poetic nature and experimental drive gaining him a deservedly fine reputation in the process. Now the singer-songwriter is back with a new album for Real World Records – his fifth for the label that signed him in 1997. Smart, soulful and intricate in ways that most songwriters can only dream of, Joseph's songs are bursting with ideas - emotionally raw and unyieldingly inventive. His throaty delivery lends a vulnerability to both the beautiful acoustic melodies and harder-edged, expansive driving rock.

Multi-instrumentalist that he is, for "The Family" Joseph single handedly takes on vocals, drums, drum programming, pianos, guitars and synths. A first for Joseph, who for the most part writes songs from guitar, the whole album was written at the piano - a Steinway Vertegrande from 1912, that he'd recently acquired. This aged instrument – so full of character and history, and owned by just one family until it ended up in Joseph's industrial studio space in Red Hook, Brooklyn – was a potent source of inspiration. Like many suburban kids Joseph's first experience of music was early piano lessons - sparking contradictory feelings, from failure to opportunity. However, this Steinway Vertegrande inspired Joseph so significantly, he dropped all his other projects (you'll never find this artist working one thing at time!) and wrote song after song, based around the idea of family. Not Joseph's family – this album after all is a work of fiction – but family in general. The way family dynamics shape us and make us who we are. The songs are sung from the perspective of different characters, from different points in history.

"Nothing in this album comes from judgment," explains Joseph. "These are stories being told from different voices and mysterious times, which hopefully resonate with all the families everywhere." * Joseph's full notes follow below *

The album was mixed by Tchad Blake, whose previous collaborations with Joseph include the well-loved songs "Honey and the Moon" and "In the Sun", the latter which has been covered by Michael Stipe and Peter Gabriel.

Joseph Arthur is a tireless performer – both as solo artist and as a member of Fistful of Mercy with Dhani Harrison and Ben Harper and RNDM with Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament. Solo, he will head out on tour in Europe in summer/autumn 2016 to perform songs from "The Family" for this first time.

Joseph Arthur on The Family

"All happy families resemble each other, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."   • LEO TOLSTOY, Anna Karenina

I never really sat down at a piano and asked for much from it. Though for me, piano runs deep as the nucleus of my relationship with music. It's how I started. And a thing I hated – not unlike three hundred million suburban kids before and after me. But this thing in my world as a kid just stood there like a judgment of failure and a stunning opportunity, all at the same time. And was used that way against me and for me. And thus began my long, weird relationship with music. This saviour. This damnation. And I won't apologize for the Emo direct sloppiness of this description. There's no way to soft sell it.

Music quickly became the cornerstone of my identity out of need. And it has remained that way ever since. It's a need to transcend this reality for another, and it's what we all seem to strive for in one way, or another. For me, music means freedom and is still the best place to put all the love-frustration-pain-suffering-euphoria-bliss-magic I can muster. It always pays back and pays back in full.

A piano restorer in Carroll Gardens found my 1912 Steinway Vertegrand piano for me. When it came up on Craigslist, he said he was baffled by it. It came to my place for ,600, all in. It was a steal. There are famous photos of John and Paul (The Beatles) playing identical pianos, writing their early hits. My piano tuning friend gave it the full inspection and tuning, but little to no repair was needed. It was like out of a time capsule. It was aged, and it had character. But nothing compared to what it was and how old it is. It had lived in Connecticut with the same family for generations, and it simply had become an artifact, despite sentimental value. Beyond all measure, though entirely impersonal to me, it had become a thing the family could no longer afford to deal with (as all things in this realm finally become.) And how unfortunate/fortunate for it to end up in an industrial garage space/studio off the coast of the waters of Red Hook, Brooklyn, where early in its new life it faced near devastation. It was only saved by friends who lifted it on cinder blocks when Sandy came to fuck us all.

But it survived.

We survived.

This record evolved right around the time the piano made its way to Brooklyn. I'd had a random conversation (is anything random?) with a woman I judged to be into speed and pills (okay, by her own admission). She was telling me about her problems with her ex-husband hounding her about the kids. This inspired the song, "You Wear Me Out", which became the catalyst for the concept of this record about family dynamics. I set out to make an album that centred about all of the aspects and all of the relationships of "The Family". And how fitting that these songs should begin on that hundred-year-old Steinway that had only ever belonged to one family.

So the songs just came. One after the other. It felt like some dumb divine clockwork. Everything else I had, or was doing, went out the window and seemed tired and irrelevant. I hadn't yet released "Boogie Christ", but I dove into this passionately.

"The Family" story is mostly a work of fiction. This isn't about my family. It's about family.

I did interview my parents. I asked for stories – anything they could recall. I remember thinking how strange it was that I hadn't really asked before, and also how relatively little they seemed to know. I think many modern American families operate like this. Off the top of my head, I don't even know much about my heritages. I know that one of my grandfathers comes from Spain, and the other comes from Scotland. My grandmothers are mixes that I can't recall, and so it goes. We blend. Our histories are lost or confused. This is no bad thing, mind you. It's life and it's great, and I'm all for it. We should blend. We should progress. But I digress…

I used facts from things my folks told me and then quickly fictionalized. Not as a rule, but because I wasn't interested in creating a personal history, or telling a story that no one really knows. I utilize the personal to imbibe reality into the universal.

For example, when I refer to 'sister' in "Sister Dawn", I'm not speaking about my sister, though I did use her actual name in the song, "The Family". However, it was me who would climb up every tree. And that wasn't in West Virginia, either. It was in Akron, Ohio. But we did go to Anmoore, West Virginia every summer and every Christmas, and we did play football there.

I incorporated actual names of people who meant something to me, and for whatever reason, never changed them. Perhaps I should have. But songwriters know that names hold weight and are hard to change.

The songs are sung from the perspective of different characters, both male and female, both child and adult, in different times in history. World War II factors in heavily to the story, but for me it was always just about war right now—the loss we all have right now. That's why I let it surround the main story, which is the way family dynamics shape us and make us who we are.

"When I Look At You" is sung from the perspective of a mother looking at her son as she is dealing with losing her husband to the war. As a songwriter, there was great freedom to take myself far out of the equation. And yet the songs felt like these things had been waiting for me, waiting for me to get out. Maybe they were stored up in that piano. Or maybe writing from that thing that had threatened me most was really setting me free. The story is non-linear and abstract, and works to help make it less personal and more universal. (An aside: I asked Tchad Blake to sequence it. He has a peculiar talent for this, as well as for mixing. This album came alive not only through his mixes, but through his sequence and edits.)

"Wishing Well" is about going to the mall in the late '70s/early '80s; it was the only suburban destination for my best friend, Jeremy and me. We'd spend hours with stolen twenties, playing Asteroids or Pac-man, smoking menthol cigarettes I stole from my mom, and joints we got any other kind of way -- and looking at that freaky well in the center of it all -- the weird display of financial lunatic freedom, right in the middle of the celebration of capitalism that was wooing us to sleep through sticky treats and flashing lights. But at the mall we could make some wish, to what or who, I don't know. But no one ever seemed to take that money (from the wishing well). And lets hope at least some of those wishes came true. I know mine did. In West Virginia, you could see the highway from a tiny porch of this little house that had been destroyed. It only exists, like it only ever existed, up here in the spirit where everything is eternal and forgiven, and the complicated aspects that make us these remarkable things called humans. That's what I was trying to document here. That's the story I was trying to tell. Love and loss. Dysfunction and surrender. Hopelessness and abuse. And the thing that somehow allows us to transcend it all. To let the things that at one point impaired us, be the same things from which we develop, or like a blessing, get our strengths.

Nothing in this album comes from judgment. These are stories being told from different voices and mysterious times, which hopefully resonate with all the families everywhere.

The last song on the record, "Daddy, The War Machine", is sung from the perspective of an innocent child, with his simplistic understanding of where his father went, and why – and then with the complexity of his loss and absence. Then the grown-up in him sings almost with defiance, or even as a challenge, with a boxer's pose at the end. It is the loss endured and turned into fearlessness – a kind of punk rock exuberance inviting the reality of this war machine that is the nature of man. It's a celebration of it all. An acceptance and a love letter. To life. And to all families, including mine.

To give you new ideas on how to improve your business, collaborate, cut costs, get funded, grow sales and more. Each time the focus is on something you can bring back to your office and implement right away.  The night includes... A room full of high profile professionals - there are "business connectors" to welcome you, and introduce you to people who most interest you Complimentary wine, beer and finger food Engaging ways to "meet-and-mingle" with other guests Presentation with take-home insights you can implement right away Prizes and a goodie bag from our sponsors To reserve a space at this exclusive event please use the registration options above.   How does it work? We believe that business networking can be both effective and fun. The game is not about walking away with a huge stack of business cards of people you couldn't recognise if they called you the next day. It's about fostering real relationships with people who can help build your business, or whom you can help build theirs. This is how we make it happen... You are greeted and introduced as you arrive. Nothing worse than being the last new arrival trying to break into somebody's conversation We interrupt proceedings throughout the evening. Gives you a chance to connect with other business owners and with exhibitors. No need to be stuck with the same person for 45 minutes There is always a great mix of people. Some have been to many of our events, however, generally 50% of attendees are there for the first time. That means there is always somebody new to meet for everybody. You meet real, serious business owners, executives and specialists. The list of titles below is real, we just removed the duplicates. From one single event. As we ask people to connect and share, instead of to sell, you will see that really genuine people show up.   Event Location! We're at our favourite location of the Royal Exchange - right in the heart of the city.       Who will you meet? Well, we can't guarantee exactly who will be in the room, but we can tell you who normally shows up (this list is a condensed list of the titles of people who showed up at a previous Business Connector event, copied from Eventbrite): Creative Director Owner & Head Copywriter Photographer Financial Controller Project Engineer Principal Lawyer Managing Director General Manager Garden Designer Solicitor/Director Executive Producer Advisor/Counsellor Photographer Consultant Business Writer Principal Strategist Business Performance Strategist Principal Owner Counsellor/Psychotherapist Co-founder Business facilitator Internet Marketing Consultant Social Media Specialist Chairman Executive Assistant Regional Manager Director Founder Business Manager Operations Manager Managing Director CEO Copywriter Principal Consultant Facilities Manager Owner Marketing Consultant Director - Corporate Training Partner Lawyer, Consultant & Business Adviser Brand Designer Producer Senior Graphic Designer & Brand Manager Peak Performance Executive Principal Small Business Specialist Business Banking Manager Investment Adviser Senior Consultant Business Advisor Business Coach Chiropractor     What do Others Say?  Terri Purchase • I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in meeting a great & varied group of people who are serious about their business join this group. I went to the event that Hugh & Mike ran last Tuesday night (my first) & it was the most slick networking event I have ever been to. I moved to Sydney from Los Angeles & have been to a couple of networking events since I have been here but their event was by far the best. What makes what they do so great (both the events & this group), the wonderful mix of people, the structure that Hugh & Mike create for the live events & they appear to me to be about: being informative, facilitating great networking/conversations, injecting humor where appropriate & most importantly encouraging people to engage so that we can all learn off each other. I love assisting in connecting people who can benefit each other & they are all about this also. I look forward to participating in some of the discussions on here & meeting others who are passionate about create amazing businesses, at future events.       FAQs What is the refund policy? You can cancel your booking up to 5 days before an event and your ticket will be fully refunded. As this is the normal cut-off for organising catering and other event details, no refunds are possible after that point.  Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You can bring your printed ticket or install the Eventbrite app on your smartphone. We love paperless! What's the dress code?  Business casual is normal - most people come straight from work so whatever you wear professionally is fine. Should I bring business cards?  Are you serious? If you don't have something to share so that people can contact you again, why bother making connections in the first place? :) When should I arrive?  If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the start you will probably miss our introduction and our explanation of how our events run, so please try to be prompt. Any other tips? Arrive early, welcome people arriving later, be honest and open, be prepared to ask for help with your business.

Road MAPP to Success: Set and Reach Goals that Matter

Road MAPP to Success: Set and Reach Goals that Matter
This seminar is for people who are ready to take their success to the next level.

For people who are ready to move up at work, get a better career or break out and start their own business.

For people who have BIG DREAMS that need to become reality because THE WORLD NEEDS what you are about to create.

See, a lot of people stop setting goals because they are tired or afraid of failing.

But the reality is that most of those people were destined to FAIL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW to effectively set goals and they definitely didn't know how to carry through to reach their goals.

And I'm not just talking about setting SMART goals. That's a great and essential start.

BUT,setting a SMART goal doesn't keep you motivated and inspired to succeed.

I know countless people who have set SMART goals that never even got started.

This seminar will give you the tools to properly set goals AND stay motivated from beginning to end.

Imagine what your life would look like if you were able to keep and reach every New Year's resolution from now on.

Seriously, stop and think about that for a second.

Imagine what would be different if you simply kept the resolution from this past New Year?

How many people actually set smaller and smaller resolutions each year because they weren't able to accomplish the goal for the years before?

That is NOT the life we were meant to live.

We were not created to aim low and you don't have to and should NOT wait until next New Year to set a new resolution.

You should be setting big goals right now!

In this seminar, you'll learn the LiveTheGoals MAPP method to setting and reaching goals!

Learning the MAPP method will give you the tools to:

- Stop procrastinating on your goals

- Develop big goals that are aligned with your purpose and passion

- Go beyond setting SMART Goals

- Completely change your life in just 5 minutes a day

- Overcome obstacles and stay motivated to the end

Whether your goals are related to your mind, body, spirit or wallet, the MAPP method will keep you on the right path to success.

Take action so that you can Set and Reach Goals that Matter!

Do you remember a time, not so long ago, when pop music felt strange? Alliances of visionary producers and charismatic singers spawned a series of songs that were as radical as they were catchy: hits like Destiny's Child's Say My Name, Aaliyah's Try Again and Tweet's Oops (Oh My). It was great, wasn't it? AlunaGeorge thought so too. Now, when the Top 40 has never been more homogenous, they want to shake things up again. "I guess we're always looking for the exception to the rule. You just have to hope people get bored and want something else," says Aluna.AlunaGeorge are Aluna Francis and George Reid. "Aluna" means "come here" in the Mwera dialect of Tanzania, "pupil" in Portugese and "Mother Earth" in Mayan. "George" means George. Aluna writes and sings the melodies and lyrics. George arranges the music into uncanny and seductive new shapes. They met in 2009. They live in London. They have released two fresh, irresistible singles, You Know You Like It and Your Drums, Your Love, and they have only just begun.AlunaGeorge are entering 2013 with fans in all the right places. They are among the final three contenders for the Brits Critics' Choice Award and on the longlist for the BBC's influential Sound of 2013 poll. Pitchfork, which has championed them from the start, booked them to play at its Paris festival in November. In the fashion world, Moschino asked the duo to perform at their London Fashion Week show and Next Models has signed Aluna confirmation of her idiosyncratic star quality.Aluna was born in Wales and moved between the UK and US before settling in St Alban's in her teens. It wasn't one of the world's great musical hotspots and her search for musical collaborators led her to pack up and move to London, where she found herself squatting in a north-west London flat with an artist, below a bunch of ex-convicts who had been in prison for murder. A fan of such striking vocalists as PJ Harvey, CocoRosie and Fever Ray, "I was finding out how to use my voice for what it is rather than try and be something I'm not."In 2006 she joined quirky electro-pop outfit My Toys Like Me and enjoyed singing but was unhappy with her lyrics. The experience taught her to focus more on writing songs that contained some emotional truth. "If I can't sing them and know what the hell I'm talking about that's a big no-no for me. I read about old-style songwriters like Sammy Kahn and all these little tricks and games you can play. That was kind of a turning point."In 2009 George asked My Toys Like Me if he could remix their single Sweetheart and met Aluna for the first time at a meeting with the band. At the time he was living in Kingston, Surrey and playing guitar in "math-pop" band Colour. "Lots of boys wanting to show off by playing in stupid time signatures," he says self-deprecatingly. Influenced by Warp Records acts such as Flying Lotus, George aspired to be a producer and began honing his skills in electronic music, combining laptop software with loop pedals.Despite their different musical backgrounds, Aluna and George realised they wanted the same thing. Both fans of leftfield instrumental production, neither could fathom why someone didn't turn these incredible beats into pop songs, so they decided to do it themselves. "We hit on a way of doing pop that was our own," says Aluna. The very first song they made together, the glitchy, twilit Double Sixes, was given away on their website. Another early song, Disobey, ended up on an episode of the US version of Skins in 2010 soundtracking a sex scene. Aluna recalls awkward situations in George's bedroom where she'd be recording "sexy lyrics" in his makeshift vocal booth which consisted of a towel over the door.In summer 2011 relatively unknown UK label Super released the You Know You Like It single and funded a memorable low-budget video featuring a squad of dancing Alunas. "Everyone was doing us favours," says Aluna. "No one got paid. And ever since people have been trying to get us to replicate that video!" Publishers and labels came calling, including hip Brooklyn-based Tri Angle Records, who gave the track an extended lease of life by releasing an EP including Just a Touch. They signed to Island in January 2012, which meant they could move into a small west London studio and stop annoying George's neighbours. They've been hunkered down in the studio for most of the year, preparing their debut album for the first half of 2013 and turning down some tempting offers. But Aluna did find time to sing on Rustie's After Light (because, hey, it's Warp), while George has brought his remix magic to Florence & the Machine (Spectrum), Friends (I'm His Girl) and Lana Del Rey (Born to Die).AlunaGeorge's songs hinge on the chemistry between Aluna's cool, commanding, distinctly British vocals and George's disorientating brew of warped samples, twitching beats and thick, woozy bass. Take their calling-card, You Know You Like It. Aluna improvised the singsong chorus at a bus stop in Harlesden and sang it down the phone line to George. The verse was a song she wrote at college a few years ago "about being defiant". "I'm no fool," she sings. "No, I'm not a follower." George set it to a slippery, unpredictable rhythm and swathed it in a dreamlike haze. The contrast's the thing. The album demonstrates the breadth and fluidity of AlunaGeorge's sound: the strutting, taunting Attracting Flies ("Your invitations are fake/Must be from a ticket tout"), the sleek 80s soul groove of Bad Idea, the slippery, dream-like Body Music, the aquatic slow jam Diver and the joyous, widescreen love song Superstar. This is exotic, imaginative pop destined for Radio 1 playlists as much as it is for blog acclaim. As the album progresses, AlunaGeorge report that Island are happy to let a good thing breathe. "They kind of leave it up to us," says Aluna. "They're like, just do something wonderful." You can be sure of that. British pop just got a lot more interesting.

Plant Growth in Space (NASA, International Space Station)

Plant Growth in Space (NASA, International Space Station)
International studies

A tiny bubble of air hangs suspended inside a droplet of water on a plant in microgravity. Many experiments on the station study how plants grow in space. Future explorers to distant destinations will need to grow food, so understanding plant growth in the microgravity environment is important. By observing plants in this environment, scientists also have learned more about why plants on Earth have certain characteristics.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood

Chris Robinson Brotherhood

When the Chris Robinson Brotherhood headed into the studio to begin recording their new album, Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel, no one knew just what to expect. These would be the band's first recordings with new drummer Tony Leone (Ollabelle, Levon Helm), their first since the departure of founding bassist Mark "Muddy" Dutton, and their first time producing themselves. But as anybody who's been following the CRB can attest, this is a band that thrives on the unexpected. If you need proof, just go back to 2012, when they first emerged on the national stage by releasing not one, but two acclaimed full-length albums within a few months of each other. Critics hailed their sprawling debut, Big Moon Ritual, as a revelation, with Uncut calling it a "tenderly-executed piece of work[that's] both earthy and transcendent," while The Independent raved that Robinson had "finally found the ideal vehicle to indulge his taste for 'Cosmic California Music.'" The reviews were similarly ecstatic for its immediate follow-up, The Magic Door, which was praised by Relix as "classic rock in the finest sense." The band's relentless tour schedule brought their shimmering acid-Americana around the world for a staggering 118-date tour, firmly establishing the CRB as the new standard-bearers of the psychedelic roots torch. In 2014, they returned to the studio for Phosphorescent Harvest, a masterful collection that showcased the blossoming songwriting partnership between Robinson and CRB lead guitarist Neal Casal. Rolling Stone raved that the album was "electrifyingboast[ing] a vintage rock vibe thats at once quirky, trippy, soulful and downright magnetic," and Guitar World called it "a treasure trove of soul that advances the band's bluesy, kaleidoscopic sound." On each of those albums, the songs and arrangements had been locked in prior to the sessions, but heading back into the studio for Anyway You Love, Robinson purposely left as much open-ended as possible, embracing the lineup changes and leaning into the virtuosic improvisational chemistry that's always made their live shows such enthralling spectacles. "Instead of seeing these things as challenges, we started to see them as something exciting," explains Robinson. "It was an opportunity to see where our expression could take us. Some people get really uptight when they're making records, but for us, the looser it gets the better. It's all about taking our intuition and following it to where our ideas can really manifest themselves. This turned out to be the most spontaneous record I've ever been a part of."Not coincidentally, Robinson also cites it as perhaps the best recording experience of his life. The band relocated to northern California for the sessions, recording on the side of a mountain overlooking the foggy Pacific Ocean and channeling the natural majesty and melancholic weather of their surroundings into the album's eight, epic, immersive tracks. The album kicks off with Narcissus Soaking Wet," a psychedelic toe-tapper that marks Robinson's first co-write with keyboardist Adam MacDougall and touches on everything from Dylan and Parliament Funkadelic to psych rock and Chicago rhythm & blues."For me, its the centerpiece of the record," says Robinson. "It's got all our CRB things we love, especially the groove, and it's the first time I ever played harmonica on one of our songs. The lyrics are about control and egotism and false idolatry, about what happens when you're a musician who puts yourself above the natural flow of harmony and music. It becomes the same mythic mistake that all the tragic heroes made."Ego takes a backseat to community in the CRB, where collaboration carries the day. Rather than coming into the studio with a collection of finished songs for this album as he had in the past, Robinson would present the group with sketchesa verse and melody here, a chorus and chord progression thereand let the band follow its collective muse to bring the music to life, a process he likens to putting an engine into the chassis of an old race car. Robinson had been sitting on "Leave My Guitar Alone," for instance, for nearly 15 years, but only once he presented it to the rest of the band did it roar to life in a way that had eluded him for more than a decade. "It's a group effort," says Robinson. "All it takes is one good, small idea, and then if everyone's focused and in the moment, a few hours later, you can have something that you realize you'll be playing for as long as you're making music. I think when everyone's aware that thats the sort of magic that we're looking for, then it happens naturally. More than any other session that I've ever been a part of, that's how all of these songs were done.""Ain't It Hard But Fair" calls to mind the soulful Americana of The Band, while "Oak Apple Day" is a mediation on life in the CRB, and "Forever As The Moon" came together in a stream of consciousness between Casal and Robinson."The album's title comes from that song, and it was the first thing that came to my mind while we were playing it," remembers Robinson. "I didn't even have a pen and paper out. We'd just finished a hectic year on the road, and I was looking around at the world and all the anxiety and the chaos. The phrase felt like this universal statement, to me, that it doesn't matter who or how or where or why, no matter what you 're going through, as long as you have love, everyone can relate to that."Some of Robinson's finest writing to date arrives in the album's final minutes, with the soulful, southern, gospel-tinged closer "California Hymn," which finds him singing "Glory glory hallelujah / It's time to spread the news / Though my good words may sound profane to some.""That whole chorus is about being a part of our community, our little CRB culture," explains Robinson. "These are our services when we play our music. And when it's at its best, we feel like the music makes a connection with people that's on a level that has nothing to do with commerce or nostalgia. There's some other gravity that keeps us all together in those moments, and I think this song is representative of that kind of magic spell."Indeed, the whole album is something of a magic spell, and now that it's been cast, it's time for services to resume in the psychedelic church of the CRB. That means they'll be hitting your local rock and roll temple in their ongoing mission to make the holy profane and the profane holy, so pour a little wine, light up an offering, and get ready for the unexpected.
