You will meet everybody from marketing gurus, communications professionals, brokers, designers, executives, lawyers, accountants, entrepreneurs, speakers, and so many more. Scroll down to see a full list from one of our previous events.   Who is Presenting? At each event we have a short presentation. To give you new ideas on how to improve your business, collaborate, cut costs, get funded, grow sales and more. Each time the focus is on something you can bring back to your office and implement right away.  The night includes... A room full of high profile professionals - there are "business connectors" to welcome you, and introduce you to people who most interest you Complimentary wine, beer and finger food Engaging ways to "meet-and-mingle" with other guests Presentation with take-home insights you can implement right away Prizes and a goodie bag from our sponsors To reserve a space at this exclusive event please use the registration options above.   How does it work? We believe that business networking can be both effective and fun. The game is not about walking away with a huge stack of business cards of people you couldn't recognise if they called you the next day. It's about fostering real relationships with people who can help build your business, or whom you can help build theirs. This is how we make it happen... You are greeted and introduced as you arrive. Nothing worse than being the last new arrival trying to break into somebody's conversation We interrupt proceedings throughout the evening. Gives you a chance to connect with other business owners and with exhibitors. No need to be stuck with the same person for 45 minutes There is always a great mix of people. Some have been to many of our events, however, generally 50% of attendees are there for the first time. That means there is always somebody new to meet for everybody. You meet real, serious business owners, executives and specialists. The list of titles below is real, we just removed the duplicates. From one single event. As we ask people to connect and share, instead of to sell, you will see that really genuine people show up.   Event Location! We're at our favourite location of the Royal Exchange - right in the heart of the city.       Who will you meet? Well, we can't guarantee exactly who will be in the room, but we can tell you who normally shows up (this list is a condensed list of the titles of people who showed up at a previous Business Connector event, copied from Eventbrite): Creative Director Owner & Head Copywriter Photographer Financial Controller Project Engineer Principal Lawyer Managing Director General Manager Garden Designer Solicitor/Director Executive Producer Advisor/Counsellor Photographer Consultant Business Writer Principal Strategist Business Performance Strategist Principal Owner Counsellor/Psychotherapist Co-founder Business facilitator Internet Marketing Consultant Social Media Specialist Chairman Executive Assistant Regional Manager Director Founder Business Manager Operations Manager Managing Director CEO Copywriter Principal Consultant Facilities Manager Owner Marketing Consultant Director - Corporate Training Partner Lawyer, Consultant & Business Adviser Brand Designer Producer Senior Graphic Designer & Brand Manager Peak Performance Executive Principal Small Business Specialist Business Banking Manager Investment Adviser Senior Consultant Business Advisor Business Coach Chiropractor           FAQs What is the refund policy? You can cancel your booking up to 5 days before an event and your ticket will be fully refunded. As this is the normal cut-off for organising catering and other event details, no refunds are possible after that point.  Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You can bring your printed ticket or install the Eventbrite app on your smartphone. We love paperless! What's the dress code?  Business casual is normal - most people come straight from work so whatever you wear professionally is fine. Should I bring business cards?  Are you serious? If you don't have something to share so that people can contact you again, why bother making connections in the first place? :) When should I arrive?  If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the start you will probably miss our introduction and our explanation of how our events run, so please try to be prompt. Any other tips? Arrive early, welcome people arriving later, be honest and open, be prepared to ask for help with your business.

Seminar on Design of Experiments (DOE) for Process Development and Validation

Seminar on Design of Experiments (DOE) for Process Development and Validation
Overview:
Prior to developing a process control plan as part of an overall risk management strategy, process development studies must be completed. The objective of these process development studies is to gain knowledge and understanding about how variation in process parameters explains variation in the product quality characteristics of the product.
The use of DOE methodology provides a means to identify process parameters which impact product quality (critical process parameters) and determine the functional relationship that links the process parameters to those critical quality attributes. Screening designs, such as 2k factorial and D-optimal designs, are used to determine critical process parameters. Response surface designs, such as Central Composite Designs (CCDs) and I-optimal designs, are used to model the functional relationship between those critical process parameters and the critical quality attributes.
This course will begin by presenting a primer on statistical analysis, focusing on the methods required for analysis of designed experiments. It will then present the steps to DOE, while demonstrating valuable risk management tools (Ishikawa and FMEA) which can be use pre and post DOE studies. Next, participants will learn to generate and analyze multiple screening and response surface designs; the participants will leave with an understanding of why and how each are used. Then, the participants will learn how results of the studies can be presented. Lastly, using the results of the studies, the risk management tools will then be updated.
Why should you attend?
The Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF) Process Validation Guidance for Medical Device Manufacturers provides guidance on where design of experiments should be applied during process validation; it suggests the use of both screening and response surface designs during Operational Qualification. In addition, DOE should be used during multiple phases of design controls: design and development planning, design verification, design validation, design transfer, and design changes.
In Guidance for Industry Q8 Pharamaceutical Development (as well as the annex to Q8), suggests applying experimental design to demonstrate "...an enhanced knowledge of product performance over a range of...process parameters." Using this "...enhanced, quality by design approach..." leads to greater system understanding. That greater system understanding has two elements: identifying critical process parameters and developing a functional relationship that link those critical process parameters to your critical quality attributes (CQAs). This suggests the use of both screening and response surface designs during pharmaceutical development studies.
The need for DOE in product and process development is not only suggested, but imperative for both medical device and drug manufactures.
Areas Covered in the Session:
Learn how to effectively use JMP to:
• identify critical quality attributes (CQAs) that will be used as responses in your designs
• utilize risk management tools to identify and prioritize potential critical process parameters
• identify critical process parameters and develop a functional relationship between those process parameters and your critical-to-quality attributes (CQAs) using both screening and response surface designs
• be able to design and analyze screening designs including a factorial, fractional factorial, and D-optimal design
• understand the need for adding center points to a design
• be able to design and analyze response surface designs including central composite designs (CCDs), Box-Behnken designs, and I-optimal designs
• present results of DOE studies
• use systematic understanding from DOE studies to update the control plan that is part of the overall risk management plan

Even many elementary curriculum are starting to incorporate the lessons of second language acquisition. With well over four years of required second language acquisition skills in the educational system why do so many educated individuals have such a limited knowledge on any second language acquisition? It becomes clear to any individual that the demands related to passing courses and the lessons that are taught are translated into demanded learning that is lost once a course or credit is achieved.

This mentality towards second language acquisition is a shame considering the applications that second language acquisition can offer an individual. For the individuals who make the decision to pursue second language acquisition after their schooling experiences it is not recommended to return to that similar educational style to achieve those goals.

When you look at the many failures that can be found with the attempts to create second language acquisition in the schooling system it reveals a clear error in that style of teaching for this subject. Fortunately for the individuals looking for second language acquisition there are language courses available through the internet. As a result of the extensive studies that have gone into improving a person's ability to absorb second language acquisition the odds of holding on to the knowledge achieved in language courses increases. The online language courses are utilized by businesses, military and even college students who recognize the flaws in the existing educational system. Online language courses offer you a real world solution to an individual looking to achieve second language acquisition.

It is often for teachers to run across one of the most popular questions asked by students related to the relevance of the material they are learning and how it can be applied to their future. Most teachers shrug off this question relating to some random profession or simply identifying it a requirement in their graduation. While these questions sometimes do have a legitimate concern, the lessons attained from language courses do have real world applications.

As the globe shrinks with advancements in communication the demand for language has expanded to support this global communication. With second language acquisition an individual increases their odds of survival in a foreign environment whether it involves the aspects of pleasure or business. In business the knowledge of your business partner's language displays a sign of respect since you are not demanding your potential clients know your language. In traveling on vacation the opportunities of second language acquisition help you in absorbing the culture and also protecting your family in an unfamiliar environment.

David A. Bailey Jr shares his best, little-known and top-secret tips and tricks to learn a new language FAST based on ten years of experience in the classroom with top language students. Visit his website http://EXLsite.com NOW and maximize your opportunities to learn from language courses.

How to Get a Science Job that Pays Extremely Well

Most Life Science students go through their university lives believing that when they graduate they will have to get a science job (if that's what they want) that won't pay very much. In fact a lot of them think that they will have to work in the lab.

Both of these statements are not true. There are many science graduate jobs that will pay graduates, even with as little as six months experience, quite a lot of money but also, will be based in an office or on the field (and not in the lab). It's sad to say that many gradates have no idea what these jobs are and no one who should be in the know is willing to tell them about it. So in many cases, it is not until a life science graduate starts working in the Pharmaceutical Industry before they find out about these amazing science jobs. But normally, at this point, they have already embarked on a career path which will NOT bring them the big salaries they want. So they either have to re-apply to positions where they have no experience (i.e. start from scratch) or just continue along the path that they have already started on.

The problems life science graduates face is that most of them have no idea what types of science jobs to apply for in industry and they have no idea what they should expect in terms of salary payments. Given this situation, many science graduates end up either doing another degree (like IT) straight after graduating in the hopes of improving their employability or they apply to completely unrelated fields (like Finance) so that they can get the types of salaries that they would like. It's not difficult to see why these options are so attractive, especially since most students live in debt and graduate with even bigger debts. They have to pay these back as soon as they graduate, so a science job that pays between 15-20K is just not enough to take care of all their living expenses.

The thing that life science graduates need to understand is that the pharmaceutical industry is vast and has enough jobs/careers to cover every salary expectation imaginable. Yes, it is possible to be able to match some of these huge salaries that the IT and Finance graduates get paid by getting jobs within the pharmaceutical industry. As incredible as it sounds, getting paid about four thousand pounds per month after tax, doing a science job, is achievable with only six months experience. There are thousands of graduates in science jobs that pay this and more. The trick is to know exactly which jobs within the industry will allow a new graduate to reach these amounts in a short period of time.

Lucy Morgan is a life science graduate with 7 years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. She owns Science Jobs DO Pay , a website which helps life science graduates get science jobs that pay four thousand pounds per month, after tax, working in the pharmaceutical industry.

Bayside (acoustic)

Bayside (acoustic)
with Hawthorne Heights
Bayside fans dont call their relationship with the band a Cult for nothing. After a string of much-adored releases, Bayside has one of the most dedicated fan bases in rock, and the group steadfastly rewards those devotees with the musical salvation they seek. Six albums and more than a decade later, Bayside has never lost touch with that mission and, in fact, theyve only grown bigger. While veteran bands take breaks and regroup, Bayside havent taken that route and instead, soldiered on, building up and growing more and more into themselves to the point in which they are the most Bayside that they have ever been. The fact that their audience has grown is testament to that. Now continuing that legacy is the bands latest creation, an explosive 11-track collection that captures Bayside in prime form, combining classic elements from throughout their career. Guaranteed to rock the faithful, the new release is appropriately entitled Cult. When we were done with the record we were like, This is every Bayside record, explains singer/guitarist Anthony Raneri. It has the honesty and rawness that weve had since Sirens And Condolences, and those risks: those weird key and time signature changes, and the different styles of music we explore. The Bayside Cult is something our fans have been talking about for a long time, and it seemed like a good name for a greatest hits album, which is kind of what this is: a Bayside discography. On the cover, there are even little symbols to signify each album.Thats a lot of history for an album cover. The bandwhich also includes lead guitarist Jack OShea, bassist Nick Ghanbarianand drummer Chris Guglielmoformed in the winter of 2000 in Queens, NY, undergoing numerous lineup changes in the early years. At first through Raneris sheer persistence and dedication Bayside progressed, eventually cutting two embryonic EPs with Dying Wish Records. Those efforts bore fruit, leading to a contract with Victory Records in 2003, resulting in the bands 2004 full-length debut, Sirens & Condolences. But it was just the beginning, and the group released three more quintessential LPs with Victory, cementing their place as one of the most important bands in the modern underground music sceneSelf-Titled (2005), The Walking Wounded (2007) and Shudder (2008)then briefly moved on to Wind-Up Records in 2010 for Killing Time (2011), their most widely visible album to date. After that record cycle Bayside opened another exciting new chapter in their career, signing with punk powerhouse Hopeless Records in 2013. Cult marks the bands first Hopeless release. For latest effort Cult, Bayside spent roughly two years writing new material, then returned to producer Shep Goodman (whod previously helmed two of Baysides most beloved releases, Self-Titled and Walking Wounded), as well as Goodmans production partner, Aaron Accetta. Raneri says Goodman was a catalyst for the bands obvious progression from debut Sirens to sophomore album Self-Titled, and this latest collaboration sought to rekindle that spark.Shep was very instrumental in teaching me about songwriting. He taught me a lot about drawing a listener in and getting inside the mind of the listener, and not just sitting down with a guitar and playing whatever comes to mind, says Raneri. Hes sort of my mentor as far as songwriting goes. I loved working with Gil Norton on the last record [Killing Time]hes a legend, and it was an amazing processbut with this record, I really wanted to get back and hone in, try to get better at my songwriting again. I knew that working with Shep has always done that for me.Sonically, Cult is perhaps the bands most confident and resonant work to date, featuring turbocharged rhythms and the consistently blistering guitar work of six-string whiz OShea. But as much as the album is a return to the bands musical sweet spot, on the other hand Cults lyrical content breaks new thematic ground, showcasing Raneris ongoing personal growth as both the man and the songwriter. Instead of dwelling on past romantic failings, this time the lyricist points his pen at the hard matters of life and death, having recently lost his grandfather, stepfather and stepbrother.[Cult] is pretty different because its not about broken relationships as much as other records; on a personal level, my relationship has been great, my marriage is good and Ive started a family. Instead a lot of this record deals with mortality, without it being morbid, says Raneri. I lost a lot of people who were close to me, and it really just started making me think a lot about what my legacy was going to be. What am I going to leave behind and what is my entire generation going to leave behind? What are they going to be saying at funerals 40 years from now? Its wondering if life is about leaving a legacy. Is that what were all here for: living a life worth remembering?Raneri channels these universal existential questions into personal inspiration on tracks like first single Time Has Come, which finds the singer challenging himself to rise to the occasion over intricately interwoven guitar lines. Its meant to be more of an uplifting thing, says Raneri. If I want to make something of myself, build a legacy, accomplish something, then Ive got to just go do it. The time is now to do something if you ever plan on it.Other tracks like Stuttering and Bear With Me put the music business under the microscope, as well as Baysides place within it. [Bear] has a lot to do with my career and my legacy as a musician. You look at bands like mine, and its hard to ignore that a lot of pop-punk or mid-2000s emo bands just sort of disappeared, says Raneri, whos instead had the good fortune of seeing Baysides popularity continually grow. Fortunately for us our band has been able to make it through a lot of that. There are definitely days when I feel like Im a novelty, but like the line in the song, I think Im twice the man I used to be.Even when Raneri does return to issues of the heart, he does so with a newfound perspective. A prime example is the song Transitive Property, which Raneri wrote during Warped Tour 2012 for his girlfriendnow his wifeas a heartfelt apology, as the couple was on the verge of a breakup. Although never intended for public ears, when bandmates heard the song they insisted it be included on the new album.Thats the most personal song Ive ever written. Its like sharing a letter to the world; sharing my actual diary that I didnt think anybody would see, Raneri says. I always write a song with the intention of sharing it, but that lyrically was the first song I wrote that was so personal because I thought nobody would ever hear it. I think its a great song; one of the best songs I ever wrote.Bayside has already toured the world many times over, sharing stages with a virtual whos who of like-minded artists and enjoying regular main-stage spots at major festivals like Warped Tour, but the bands plans for the coming year are no less ambitious. After Cult drops in February, Bayside will head out on a U.S. headlining tour, then travel to Europe with Alkaline Trio in the spring. From there Bayside will likely play still more high-profile North American dates during the summer of 2014.Im excited about the tour, because its sort of a combination of underplayed and big shows, says Raneri. Were in certain cities playing bigger venues than weve ever played, and in some cities were playing in smaller venues. Now six full-lengths into their career, making the setlist each night gets tougher than ever. Raneri says the band is cautious of including too much new material live, for risking of disappointing fans awaiting the classics, but once listeners have Cult in their hands itll be easier to gauge which new tracks to perform. Inevitably though, Cult will stand up well next to past material. If theres one thing immediately clear, its that Cult is as classic Bayside as it comes. We dont play anything we dont want, but at the same time, we listen to our fans, and we know what makes Bayside, Bayside. We try to grab all those things that we all love about Bayside and try to do more of them, says Raneri. Peoples lives change. You go from high school to college to adulthood to parenthood, and everything in your life changes, except theres always going to be a new Bayside record, and you can always go home.

Language skills will also improve your business on a day-to-day basis from writing emails and faxes to performing well at promotional events and overseas trade fairs.

The RLN can help you to locate translators and interpreters in your area through their online database of language professionals. This database is used to find suitable providers for local businesses looking for business language trainers, interpreters, translators and cultural consultants.

Case studies of West Midlands companies who have used language skills and cultural understanding to increase exports or enter new markets are available on the RLN website together with a range of business resources such as free cultural briefings.

Languages will also bring life-long benefits to the individual, from increasing travel and career opportunities to enabling you to immerse yourself in the previously unknown worlds of foreign films and literature. Lita Ford

Lita Ford

To LITA FORD, the title of her new solo album Living Like A Runaway has two deep and distinct meanings: The first refers to her first band The Runaways, which she was a member of between 1975 and 1980, achieving her international breakthrough. The second reason is of a much more personal nature: There have been days in my life when I ran away, when I was unhappy and had to get out of my previous life, LITA confesses. Its like walking through fire and being able to come through the other side unscathed. She continues, I wanted to write an album which gives people courage, inspires them and gives them new power, in other words the power of music. As it has done for me on difficult days, I want this music to help people to get through tough times, while remembering their happy times as well. Its happened to me plenty of times: fans come up to me and tell me how my songs have helped them in difficult situations, in a way it is almost like a soundtrack to their lives.Living Like A Runaway will be released on SPV/Steamhammer June 18th 2012 (USA: June 19th; Germany: June 15th). The album will be available in five different formats: as a limited edition digipak featuring two bonus tracks and a poster, as a gatefold double LP, a jewel case version, an exclusive iTunes version including a bonus track, and for download.LITA FORD has teamed up with producer Gary Hoey and lyricist Michael Dan Ehmig to work on Living Like a Runaway. Together the team invested a lot of time and effort into this kick ass project: We worked on the lyrics intensively to really give the songs a lot of meaning and that special emotional depth. I think that these are some of the best lyrics ever, period. FORD is referring to numbers such as Devil In My Head, Hate, and The Asylum which see her bare her soul in a way which she has never done before. In addition to lead vocals, LITA and Hoey have arranged beautiful and melodic guitar harmonies rather than just rattling off a bunch of notes. Also contributing to the album is Nikki Sixx who wrote A Song to Slit Your Wrist By` which was taken by LITA and completely transformed into a nasty industrial style track with a real F You! attitude. On the track Bad Neighborhood` guitarist Doug Aldrich provided the riff, which LITA says, is a high energy guitar riff that carries the song. Elton John also gave his blessing to LITA to do a cover of his classic The Bitch is Back`, featuring special guests The Uptown Horns.Unlike many albums today, Living Like a Runaway is an album that truly must be heard in its entirety from start to finish. Listeners shouldnt pick out individual tracks but listen to the full album, says FORD. Its a fascinating musical journey, inspired by Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon. I had seen a documentary about Dark Side of the Moon and it really motivated me to focus on Living Like a Runaway as a whole journey rather just an individual song.A British born rocker who grew up on the streets of L.A., Lita Ford is considered one of the most important female representatives of the rock genre. Being a founding member of the Runaways, one of the first girl groups who unexpectedly broke down barriers in the punk era as well as the male-dominated world of rock music, causing a stir with their six rebellious releases.Following the demise of the Runaways, LITA FORD concentrated on her own career and now looks back on many memorable hits including: the chart topping duet with Ozzy Osbourne Close Your Eyes Forever`, What Do You Know About Love`, Shot Of Poison`, Larger Than Life` and Kiss Me Deadly. With the release of Living Like a Runaway, expect many more songs to be added to the list of hits.

Secrets of a Science Fair

Let's suppose you have finished polishing a satisfying piece of scientific work. Or it might be more realistic to suppose that you have reached a natural stopping point where it becomes evident that new thinking, planning and equipment may be necessary before you can go any further.

You may have carried out this project to pin down an answer that eluded you. If you had fun looking for that answer, or if you actually produced what scientists and mathematics call an "elegant proof," you will be wondering now how you can share it and check its validity against other work in your field.

One of the most rewarding ways to do this is by entering your project in one of the local or national competitions for young student-scientist, such as a science fair.

What Is a Science Fair?

A science fair is a collection of exhibits, each of which is designed to show a biological, chemical, physical or technical principle, a laboratory or other procedure, an industrial development or an orderly collection of anything which can be fitted into the broad concept of any branch of any pure or applied science.

Every year millions of people see science exhibits shown by students at science fairs leading to the National Science Fair-International.

The simplest fair is an exhibition of science projects held in the school itself, where all the experiments, collections and displays that have been worked out by students either in class or as extracurricular science club activities are shown. These fairs have become so numerous that it is difficult to keep track of them. They often are a feature of a meeting or a showing to which the public is invited.

If the scientists who judge the science fair agree that a piece of work is valid and is well presented, the exhibitor may find himself winning an award and taking his project on to a large regional fair. City-wide, area or regional science fairs may exhibit several hundred projects in a large hall and may be visited by thousands of interested people.

Exhibiting Your Science Project

Before you even begin work on a project that you plan to enter in a science fair, you will want to have some idea of how it might be exhibited effectively. More detailed ideas will occur to you as your work progresses, and you will want to jot these down for future use.

When you are ready to build the exhibit, first make a preliminary design to see what the over-all effect will be. Then make a more accurate sketch that includes all necessary details.

1. Layout. A science fair exhibit for most fairs should be forty-eight inches wide by thirty inches front to back, or less. Some things, such as telescopes, which may not fit into these dimensions, should be displayed so that their longest dimension extends vertically, to avoid crowding by neighboring exhibits.

2. Types of Exhibits. There are three basic methods of treatment, with many variations for each. The first is "breadboard" style, that is, on an open breadboard, or flat on the exhibit tables. This is suitable for the display of large mounted specimens and chemical and physical apparatus.

The second is the panel form of construction in which sides, back and base are put to use. This form is suited to the exhibition of flat specimens. Sometimes even the top and front also become parts of the exhibit area. The third method utilizes boxed units set one alongside the other, and sometimes on top of each other as well. This form is suited to radio transmitters, receivers, amplifiers, oscilloscopes, numerous valuable or fragile specimens and, of course, aquaria.

3. Lettering and Labels. Avoid huge letters poorly made, ponderous charts or diagrams, notebook records spread across the table top. Make your major legends small and neat and readable at a distance of six to eight feet. Judges and visitors who want to study the details can leaf through your notebook, which preferably should be secured to the right front edge of your exhibit space.

Seek out a science fair and gain the satisfaction of exhibiting your own project.
