If only some rich/famous person would discover 666isMONEY we could run ads in the New York Times and save the world. Here's a comment I wrote on our local newspaper website this morning:

Islam seems to be more of a political philosophy than a religion . . . a bunch of fairy tales, Judaism & "Saint" Paul too, irrational fantasies, the concentration camp in Gaza, etc. God must be pissed at these morons. Jesus (if he existed) was the Logos or logic of God. (John 1:1) This world is doomed! The Muslims are keenly aware of their demographic advantage . . . and Israel considers this their #1 problem behind Iran. (America is fighting for Israel, opium & oil.) "Christian" Zionists are the worst!

This was in response to NPR firing Juan Williams.

Someone responded: "What in the world are you smoking? Can I have some?"

Map link shows the trailhead.

Jessy Lanza

Jessy Lanza
with DJ Taye
Jessy Lanzas second album Oh No is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making, which used to calm her nerves, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill. The exclamation Oh No, for Jessy, marks yet another incident of randomness interrupting her tranquillity. All of which seems at odds with the confidence and spontaneity of this second album as well as recent collaborationswith the likes of Caribou, DJ Spinn and Morgan Geist and his Galleria project.Made in her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, with production partner Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys, the plaintive, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct, self-assured and joyful album. As with many artists whose hometown lie off the usual network of cultural hotspots, Oh No is driven positively by the idea of making music that isnt inspired by where she lives. Instead, the album resonates more with the philosophy of experimental pop of Japanese 80s electro outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and Jessys breathless, pitched vocals are reminiscent of YMO collaborator Miharu Koshi. Playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, Oh No has an infectious energy that has been brewing in her live shows since her first album. As Jessy says I want to make people feel good and I want to make myself feel good. The album oscillates between the languid, coiled, arpeggiated slow jams of New Ogi, GoingSomewhere, Begins, Could be u, I Talk BB and the low slung 808 groove of Vivaca, where Jessys vocal gymnastics run wild over minimal drums and synths, and the catchy upbeat boogie of VV Violence, Never Enough, OhNo and the high point of It Means I Love You which has a sparse addictive bounce with a pitched up vocal refrain and a nod to Shangaan electro. The trials of dealing with nervousness are also encrypted into the artwork, such as the plants that recur in the sleeve and videos. As Jessy remarked, I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants. Ive been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference.Anxiety and botanical remedies or not, Oh No is a bold second album from Jessy and a marked step forward for her sound. Catch her as shetours with Junior Boys in February, plays EU headline shows from May to June, and in July has a North American Tour.

Festival of Arts Books and Brunch with Steve Hely
New this summer, the Festival of Arts introduces Books and Brunch, an event where patrons can meet and talk with one of today's most popular authors. On Sunday, July 24, the Festival of Arts welcomes comedic writer and author Steve Hely with his newest book, The Wonder Trail.

About The Wonder Trail: Steve Hely, writer for The Office and American Dad!, and recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor, presents a travel book about his journey through Central and South America. Part travel book, part pop history, part comic memoir, Hely's writing will make readers want to reach for their backpack and hiking boots. The Wonder Trail is the story of Steve's trip from Los Angeles to the bottom of South America, presented in 102 short chapters. Steve's plan was to discover the weird, wonderful, and absurd in Central and South America, to seek and find the incredible, delightful people and experiences that came his way. And the book that resulted is just as fun. A blend of travel writing, history, and comic memoir, The Wonder Trail will inspire, inform and delight.

Jon Pardi - Album Release Show

Jon Pardi - Album Release Show

"All I ever wanted to do coming to Nashville was to write rowdy, in-your-face, straight country music," says Jon Pardi, "and that's what this album is."Pardi's high-energy approach, perfected on stages throughout his native California, has its stamp all over his Capitol Records Nashville debut. Just as importantly, that energy is applied to music rooted in songwriting legend Harlan Howard's adage that country is three chords and the truth."If you can take a piece of life and put it in a song," says Pardi, "it's going to be a good songespecially if it's from the heart."Life and love, truth and energy wind their way all through his debut album, which showcases a young artist who is clearly no ordinary newcomer. Few artists hit stride as quickly and as forcefully as he has, and his fellow artists have been among the first to take note."People ask me who I'd like to open up for," he says with a smile, "but I've been lucky enough to have opened for several artists I look up to."It's a list that includes Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakam, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan and Luke Bryan, artists who appreciate the kind of influences Pardi brings to the tableechoes of the crisp Bakersfield sound of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, hints of the driving beat of Waylon Jennings and the excitement of Jerry Lee Lewis. He brings all of it together and puts his unique stamp on it, topping it off with just a bit of swagger that gives a little edge to his undeniable appeal.Like his heroes, Pardi is a longtime road warrior, a veteran of four-set shows and constant travel, someone who brings a wealth of experience to bear every time he steps in front of a microphone. He has gone on tour with kindred spirit and labelmate Eric Church, and earned a slot on the Austin City Limits Festival, one of the country world's most prestigious venues. His on-stage charisma and accessibility, his polished yet raucous sound, and his well-crafted and infectious songs earn him new fans wherever he goes. The territory he covers on the CDroad life and the ups and downs of romancehas been the subject matter of many country classics through the decades, but Pardi, whose gift is a feel for atmosphere and an eye for detail, makes it all fresh and gives the project his indelible stamp.A natural storyteller, he writes what he knows, spinning tales born of his dues-paying days in the area around his native Dixon, California, and bringing it all together into a strong, cohesive musical statement. Between the heartfelt opener "Fightin' the Fool" and the breakneck rocker "Drinkin' With Me," which closes the CD, he lays out a scenario of youth, music, love and loss that is as compelling as it is raucous. "Chasin' Them Better Days" and "Write You A Song" capture all the adventure and uncertainty of life on the road; "Happens All The Time" brings attraction, flirtation and love's possibilities, good and bad, to the table; from there, "Up All Night" celebrates love, "Missin' You Crazy" showcases the yin-yang pull of relationships and the road, "Love You From Here" is a surprisingly upbeat farewell to a departed love, and "Empty Beer Cans" and "Rainy Night Song" show both sides of the coin when it comes to heartache. All in all, it's an album by an artist who knows just where his strengths liethe excitement, experience and songwriting skills that fueled his relatively fast rise to publishing and label deals after his arrival in Nashville are all present. His one-of-a-kind voice brings a positive edge to even the toughest emotional scenarios."I really don't have any negative songs," he says. "It always feels good with me so when you come to a show or listen to the record, you're going to have a good time."It's not hard to see where the earliest seeds of Pardi's approach lie. His musical journey began with a grandmother who loved classic country and had a karaoke machine in the house. Young Jon developed a special fondness for Hank Jr. and the two GeorgesJones and Straitalong with Alabama, Dwight Yoakam and Mark Chesnutt. He was just 7 when he sang "Friends in Low Places" for all he was worth at his dad's 30th birthday party at a local Legion hall.At an even younger age, he walked out of a children's music class and asked for guitar lessons so he could sing like his heroes. He was writing songs by 12 and playing them in a band at 14. A self-confessed "class clown," he was more interested in writing songs and playing guitar than in either sports or homework. After high school, he and buddy Chase McGrew began playing acoustically in small bars around Dixon and Winters."Those were some of the fun times," he says, "and that's when I learned that slow songs don't go over when you're trying to sell beer, so I learned a lot of really up, fast songs that I still like doing today."The two moved to Chico to go to Butte Junior College, where Pardi started the band Northern Comfort."We played together for three years and it was a lot of fun," he says. When they disbanded temporarily, "I went home and started saving money. I'd known I was going to move to Nashville since I was 19," and after visits to Music City where he met a few people, he knew the time was right."You need to have a level head to move here," he says, "to be confident enough to say, 'I'm going to do it.' I felt like I was ready and I started out on February 23, 2008, with my mom crying as I drove away."He took his dog, his PA system and the ,000 he'd saved, which, he says, "I went through pretty quick." He used a credit card to pay the fee for lifeguard training, using that skill to earn money until he landed a publishing deal, just 18 months after moving. Two of his first collaborations, "Write You a Song" and "Fighting The Fool," were instrumental in landing him his publishing deal, and he took full advantage of the opportunity to write for money."I did a lot of co-writing," he says. "There were a lot of headache mornings but I still showed up, and a lot of good songs came on days like that."As demos he wrote and sang started making the rounds on Music Row, label execs, including those at Capitol, began asking, "Who is this Jon Pardi?""We started doing showcases," he says, "and about the third one we did with the full band, [Capitol Records Nashville President] Mike Dungan gave me a handshake afterward and said, 'Let's do it.'"As they talked about potential producers, Pardi suggested that he and his friend and collaborator Bart Butler, who had done the demos that had brought him this far, do the album."They said all right," he says, "and we cut four songs and they loved them. Then we went back in and finished it up."The key from his perspective, he says, is "knowing what you want. I had what I wanted to sound like in my head. It's what made doing the demos and then the record so much fun. You take a piece of this influence and a bit of that and make it your own. So much happens in the studio if you've got your lyric and song melody down."Given the quality of his heroes, the strength of his talent and the depth of his experience, the album became just the right showcase. From there, he says, "it's about surrounding yourself with great people. If you show Nashville you've got talent and if you do it right, they'll help you make that talent even better and help you get it out there."Life perspective gives his success a special sweetness."I know I'm lucky to be doing what I'm doing," he says. "I could be back working construction or installing air conditioners in an attic that's at 115 degrees. There are a lot of people who work awfully hard to make a dollar. I'm glad the hard work I'm doing now goes into something I love this much. It makes me really happy to be here doing music."As he begins making his mark on a national level, that's a feeling being shared by more and more new Jon Pardi fans.

Investing in Article Writing Services

While the best approach to increasing the exposure of a website has always been through article writing services, most website owners seem to take this for granted. Some however might be completely unaware of the impact of professional writing services in the marketing of a website. The advent of the internet has made it possible for article writers to expand their markets and increase their services to clients.

It makes sense to invest in article writing services despite the increase in competition in every niche in the writing industry. The availability of e-commerce applications and the establishment of online payment systems have made it possible for many to work from home. It is now possible for anyone in need of articles to go online, look for writing companies and get articles produced from any part of the world. Clients can also make online payments for services rendered. This has given many who prefer to work from home the momentum to do so.

Online article writing services can use their own articles to attract clients through web traffic and then convert the generated traffic into sales. This calls for investments in your writing service through website development, article writing and marketing, search engine optimization and many other techniques that will increase visibility on the search engines. If you want a steady increase in traffic to your website can only occur when you achieve high rankings in the search engines especially Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Writing very high quality articles is part of the investment in your article writing services. This should not be quite difficult and will actually help you stay tuned to the happenings in the marketplace while you carry out your in depth study as you prepare to write. When done with a professional attitude and a desire to provide only quality work, online article writing can become a predominant way to make earn an income. Making a good income is achievable once you understand how to provide this vital service.

Article writing nonetheless requires lots of dedication and commitment. Initially, you will have to write lots of articles yourself. With time, you can hire professional writers, or even train them, and then take on an editorial and managerial role. But starting an article writing service requires time and patience for your own articles to get indexed correctly. One major requirement in this kind of investment is originality.

If you want to kill your writing business faster than you have started it, you can easily do so by copying other people's work. Investing in software or resources that can help you avoid this is advisable. There are websites such as Grammarly, Copyscape and many other sites or software that you can use for this purpose. Being original will give your article writing service a lot of credibility as well as help you gain a competitive advantage over other writing services. Having a firm grasp of what you write about will also ensure that you are trusted as an authority in article writing.

Investing in your article writing service is much more than just getting a website designed for you that announces to the world that you offer such services. If and when you do get a website nonetheless, get a professionally designed website, add pictures, videos and write articles that will help you stand out among the many article writing services available online.

Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco

Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco
On Monday, July 4th, the San Diego County Fair presents the hilarious Sebastian Maniscalco on the Heineken Grandstand Stage. Sebastian's specialty is saying what we're all thinking, but when he says it, it's a whole lot funnier. Fans across North America show up in droves to see Sebastian's dead-on social commentary on marriage, family and his Italian upbringing. From the moment he takes the stage, his hilarious facial expressions and animated delivery has his audience totally captivated, in the moment and hysterically laughing.

After nearly a dozen sold-out performances in New York City's comedy circuit in the last year alone, the Chicago-born-and-bred turned Los Angeles native tapped Manhattan as the backdrop for his highly-anticipated new special which was shot at the historic Beacon Theatre in May. The one-hour taping will air on Showtime this fall and is packed with hilarious skepticism that only Sebastian can deliver, selling out 7 shows and over 16,800 tickets.
Due to popular demand Sebastian's second Showtime stand-up special "Aren't You Embarrassed?" is now available streaming on Netflix where millions can tune into see his witheringly sarcastic and exasperated take on modern behavior and etiquette. As the "Dallas Observer" noted, "Much of the material for his three comedy specials and tours comes from his astonishment with modern society's unspoken rules and the juxtaposition of current culture against his upbringing in a hardworking, 'half-Sicilian, half-Italian' immigrant family." Sebastian shares, "Those values ... have been a catalyst for my comedy. I'm like, 'Wow, I guess a lot of people didn't have this type of upbringing' … that old world technique of, you know, nothing's given to you, you've gotta work for everything you've done."
Since then, the 2014 American Comedy Award nominee for Best Club Comedian has established an avid fan following via national late night television appearances on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," "Late Night with Seth Meyers," "Conan," and more. Sebastian is also a popular guest on networks such as "Showtime" and "Comedy Central" and the ground-breaking podcast "WTF with Marc Maron" in addition to "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast and starring in his own wildly popular "The Pete and Sebastian Show" podcast every Friday night.

In January, Maniscalco was seen in an episode of "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" with Jerry Seinfeld. http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/sebastian-maniscalco-i-dont-think-thats-bestiality

Distinguished by "The New York Times" as a comic with his "own kind of panache," Sebastian has taken on everything from selfies that he calls "lonelies" ("Do you know how alone you have to be to have 838 photos of yourself in your bathroom?") to online restaurant reviews ("Who's got the time to write an 18 page essay on asparagus?") to airport check-ins ("I'm taking out a boot…a sock…a toothpaste…does anyone know what two pounds is?").

Still sporting his Chicago accent despite leaving the Windy City in 1998 to follow his dream in Los Angeles, Sebastian began paying his comedy dues by night playing his brand of comedy in bars and bowling alleys while working as a waiter at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. He eventually broke into the national spotlight with a 20-city tour in support of his one-hour "Comedy Central" DVD Special. Yet, it wasn't until Sebastian captured the attention of award-winning actor and entertainer Vince Vaughn who selected him to be one of four featured comedians in the critically acclaimed film "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show" that his comedy career began to explode.

Discussion with Bobby Seale; Moderated by Sellassie

Discussion with Bobby Seale; Moderated by Sellassie
Socio-Political Hip Hop Artist and Activist Sellassie sits down with Black Panther co-founder Bobby Seale in an intimate setting and asks the questions the community wants to hear. Subjects ranging from modern day social movements, galvanizing the power in the ghetto, the 2016 Presidential election and the future of the Black Panther Party. The event will be held at Freedom Archives, an impressive organization and event space that has organized and archived 10,000 hours of audio and video recordings and thousands of documents about social justice movements locally, nationally and internationally from the 1960s to present. The Archives feature speeches of movement leaders and community activists, protests and demonstrations, cultural currents of rebellion and resistance.

Bobby Seale: www.BobbySeale.com
Bobby Seale is an African-American political activist and co-founder and national chairman of the Black Panther Party.
Born in Texas in 1936, Bobby Seale is one of a generation of young African-American radicals who broke away from the usually nonviolent Civil Rights Movement to preach a doctrine of militant black empowerment, helping found the Black Panthers (later renamed the Black Panther Party) in 1966. Originally created as an armed force protecting the black community from the notoriously racist Oakland police, the Panthers' reputation grew and with it the scope of the organization itself. The Panthers became a new voice in the Civil Rights Movement, and they rejected outright the mainstream movement's nonviolent approach as well as the "Back to Africa" teachings put forth by the more radical Black Nationalists. The Panthers focused much of their energies on community outreach, and the California movement spawned chapters across the nation. By 1968, Seale decided that a public account of the formation and history of the Panthers was needed, so he wrote Seize the Time: The Story of the Black Panther Party and Huey P. Newton (published in 1970). That same year, Seale was arrested while protesting at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He and seven other defendants, thereafter known as the Chicago Seven, were tried for conspiracy to incite riots in a circus-like atmosphere that resulted in Seale being sentenced to four years in prison for contempt of court . Seale was also tried during this period for the murder of a fellow Panther suspected of being a police informant. The trial ended with a hung jury. In the 1970s, as the Black Panthers faded from public view, Seale took on a quieter role, working toward improving social services in black neighborhoods and other causes. After his release from prison, Bobby Seale renounced violence as a means to an end and began the task of reorganizing the Panthers, which had fallen into disarray in his absence. In 1973, he also ran for mayor of Oakland and came in second out of nine candidates. But Seale soon grew tired of politics and turned again to writing, producing A Lonely Rage in 1978 and a cookbook titled Barbeque'n with Bobby in 1987. In 2002, Seale moved back to Oakland to work with young political activists to spark social change.

About Sellassie: www.sellassiefrisco.com
The Rap Contest creator, host and producer Sellassie, is the world's first higherground hip-hop artist; he is a social justice activist, a member of the #Frisco5, withstanding the longest politically motivated hunger strike in San Francisco, entrepreneur, event producer and pioneer. He has carved his niche as a leading progressive voice in hip-hop and as a force in bringing independent artists together. With an acclaimed and award-winning debut release, I'm Tryin' to Make a Livin' Not a Killin', this trendsetting emcee has garnered a street level buzz with a fresh perspective. Sellassie is proof that there are young black artists that can make music that is creative, street, positive and smart. He stands firm to his message, has a charismatic presence and is evidence that not every rapper raps negatively, glorifying drugs, guns, money or their ego. He is also the creator, producer and host of the Independent Artist Series, The Rap Contest, We All We Got and Undiscovered Tour. Producing over 200 shows on the calendar in the last five years in over 15 markets nationwide, the series have distinguished themselves as premier outlets for independent artists. He is also working with many social, political and youth based initiatives, and is a contributor to various special projects including the film, It Doesn't Cost Nothin' to Dream. Sellassie is grounded; a confident and refreshing emcee in an industry plagued with commercialism, materialism, negativity and drama. Sellassie utilizes his music and events as a vehicle for social change and inspiration, and he regularly states that he "wants to be in the history books, not the pop charts."

Sellassie has shared the stage with many great artists; Rakim, Saul Williams, KRS-One, The Goodie Mob, Mos Def, Sly and Robbie, Vieux Farka Toure, dead prez, Redman and Method Man, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Ziggy Marley, Alanis Morissette, Raekwon, The Indigo Girls, Radio Active, Rebelution, Warren Haynes, Goapele, The Hieroglyphics, Mr. FAB, Camp Lo, Pharoahe Monch, Ise Lyfe, Namkha Rinpoche, Medusa, One Block Radius, Lyrics Born, Kev Choice, Martin Luther, Silk-E, The Mighty San Quinn, The Jacka, The Husalah, Bayonics, Zion I, Rah Digga, Rappin 4-Tay, Jelly Bread, Vinnie Paz, Keith Murray, Richie Rich, 2Mex and Jennifer Johns among hundreds independent artists.

Cliff Eberhardt at Music in the Gallery Concerts

Cliff Eberhardt at Music in the Gallery Concerts
Cliff Eberhardt knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast), he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Mississippi John Hurt receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and Rodgers and Hart, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists. Though he put in long hours as a taxi driver, Cliff worked steadily on his music throughout the 80's, doing solo gigs and studio work, and playing guitar on the road with Richie Havens, Melanie and others. Singing advertising jingles for products like Coke, Miller Beer and Chevrolet ("The Heartbeat of America" campaign) allowed him to devote more time to his songwriting. Long one of the most respected songwriters on the club scene, his peers often mine his catalog for themselves. Cliff's song "Memphis" was included on Cry Cry Cry, an album of collaborative covers by the "folk supergroup" of the same name (comprised of Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell). Other performers who have recorded his songs include Richie Havens, Shawn Colvin, Russ Taff and Buffy Sainte Marie. A collection of his songs has been published in The Cliff Eberhardt Songbook (Cherry Lane Publishing).
