I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change
LIVE - DINNER - THEATRE
Friday, Saturday 7:30PM Showtime / Sunday 2:00PM Showtime
Join the ritual of the modern day mating game jungle in this fun fodder satire as four actors play over 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs scaling the dizzying spectrum of male/female relationships. This musical comedy review uses song styles as varied as country-Western ditties, tangos and ballads. Each number explores those secret thoughts anyone's had about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws, but was afraid to admit.

Legacy
Legacy
We got word yesterday that our paper "The effects of repeat collaboration on creative abrasion" was accepted for publication in the Academy of Management Review, one of the premier journals in business research and one I have been wanting to get into during my career. The paper proposes a theory of why repeat collaborations are often creatively disappointing, and what teams can do to counter these negative effects. This is about my 70th journal publication.
For an academic, the hope is that at least one of our ideas will become a legacy, but the reality is that only a few theories remain in the buzz of the community year to year and decade to decade.

One of the most prominent Latin-born performers of the pop era, singer/guitarist Jose Feliciano was born September 10, 1945, in Lares, Puerto Rico; the victim of congenital glaucoma, he was left permanently blind at birth. Five years later, he and his family moved to New York City's Spanish Harlem area; there Feliciano began learning the accordion, later taking up the guitar and making his first public appearance at the Bronx's El Teatro Puerto Rico at the age of nine. While in high school he became a fixture of the Greenwich Village coffeehouse circuit, eventually quitting school in 1962 in order to accept a permanent gig in Detroit; a contract with RCA followed a performance at New York's Gerde's Folk City, and within two years he appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival. After bowing with the 1964 novelty single "Everybody Do the Click," he issued his flamenco-flavored debut LP The Voice and Guitar of Jose Feliciano, trailed early the next year by The Fantastic Feliciano.
Unhappy with the direction of his music following the release of 1966's A Bag Full of Soul, Feliciano returned to his roots, releasing three consecutive Spanish-language LPs -- Sombras...Una Voz, Una Guitarra, Mas Exitos de Jose Feliciano and El Sentimiento, La Voz y La Guitarra de Jose Feliciano -- on RCA International, scoring on the Latin pop charts with the singles "La Copa Rota" and "Amor Gitana." With 1968's Feliciano!, he scored a breakthrough hit with a soulful reading of the Doors' "Light My Fire" that launched him into the mainstream pop stratosphere; a smash cover of Tommy Tucker's R&B chestnut "Hi Heel Sneakers" solidified his success, and soon Feliciano found himself performing the national anthem during the 1968 World Series. His idiosyncratic Latin-jazz performance of the song proved highly controversial, and despite the outcry of traditionalists and nationalists, his status as an emerging counterculture hero was secured, with a single of his rendition also becoming a hit.

Because we have enough equipment to go around & people don't need to share manikins, and because we run small classes we are able to accomplish in a short amount of time what other places take a ton of time to do. If you can't spend that much time in the classroom you may want to click here to check out our "Blended Individualized (Fast) Class Option. A History of Science Fairs
Back in October, 1828, The American Institute of the City of New York, "incorporated for the purpose of encouraging and promoting domestic industry in this State and the United States in Agriculture, Commerce, Manufactures and the Arts", held its first industrial fair. The exhibition was held in New York at a time when the 416 "watchmen" that comprised the city's "Finest" were busy keeping the streets clear of stray cows, horses and pigs. Travel to the other 27 states that made up the Union was by boat and stagecoach, as the locomotive was as yet unknown.
At that first fair, the iron plow had its first public showing, and the exhibits included, among others, a black veil "made by a girl of eight years of age". So, to stretch a point, perhaps this is where the idea of a fair for students had its start.
The science fair as we know it, a collection of exhibits designed by school students of pre-college age, had its origin in 1928 when the American Institute, satisfied that the original purpose of the organization had been accomplished, turned from industrial fairs and sponsored the first Children's Fair, It was so successful that it was scheduled as an annual event, and science clubs, informally organized as a result of this activity, were officially encouraged.
When, in 1941, the American Institute found that it could no longer support the non-profit clubs, publications and a Student Science Laboratory, the science club movement at the national level was transferred to Science Service of Washington, D.C, a non-profit institution for the popularization of science.
Instrumental in organizing and expanding Science Clubs of America were Dr. Harlow Shapley, Joseph H. Kraus, Watson Davis and Miss Margaret Patterson. Together with G. Edward Pendray of Westinghouse, the first Science Talent Search was launched in 1942, and in 1950, a plan was set up to hold a national science fair as another activity of Science Service. All of these activities had to be self-liquidating and dependent upon public-spirited organizations and individuals.
Today, a number of organizations present awards to students doing outstanding work in science. In addition to the National Science Fair-International "Wish Awards" and the Westinghouse scholarships, awards are presented by the American Chemical Society, American Dental Association, American Heart Association, American Institute of Biological Sciences, American Medical Association, American Pharmaceutical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, National Committee for Careers in Medical Technology, Optical Society of America, Society of American Bacteriologists, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and the Association of the United States Army, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the U. S. Navy.
The first National Science Fair was held in Philadelphia with 13 regional fairs participating. In 1964, finalists from 208 affiliated fairs held in this country and abroad participated in the National Science Fair-International in Seattle, Wash. Their projects represented the best work of almost a million students.
If you have an idea for a project it is worthwhile trying to enter it into a Science Fair.

Dialogue: The Art of Verbal Action for Page, Stage, and Screen
Dialogue: The Art of Verbal Action for Page, Stage, and Screen
The long-awaited follow-up to the perennially bestselling writers' guide Story, from the most sought-after expert in the art of storytelling.
Robert McKee's popular writing workshops have earned him an international reputation. The list of alumni with Oscars runs off the page. The cornerstone of his program is his singular book, Story, which has defined how we talk about the art of story creation.
Now, in DIALOGUE, McKee offers the same in-depth analysis for how characters speak on the screen, on the stage, and on the page in believable and engaging ways. From Macbeth to Breaking Bad, McKee deconstructs key scenes to illustrate the strategies and techniques of dialogue. DIALOGUE applies a framework of incisive thinking to instruct the prospective writer on how to craft artful, impactful speech. Famous McKee alumni include Peter Jackson, Jane Campion, Geoffrey Rush, Paul Haggis, the writing team for Pixar, and many others.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful It's All Right Here. All of it., This review is from: Dialogue: The Art of Verbal Action for Page, Stage, and Screen (Hardcover) I shouldn't even be writing this review because doing so only creates my competition. I'm writing it for Robert McKee out of respect and love for him as one of the best instructors I've never met. I have both STORY and now, DIALOGUE in hardcover, on my Kindle, and the audio version (he narrates his books) in my headphones. I read it, I listen to it and take it with me when I travel. Sometimes I listen and read at the same time. Most nights I listen to the audio version in my sleep. In other words, I eat, sleep and breathe this book. I did the same thing with Story, his other book. I may go to my grave never fully comprehending the vast wealth of knowledge contained in these two books. That's OK. What I can tell you is this. With nothing but STORY as my guide, my very first screenplay took seven months and thirty-five drafts from start to finish. But. That screenplay became a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries feature film. The producers liked it so much they gave me another assignment. That one took six weeks, and they bought the first draft. I'm now working on my fifth script; this one is in the six-figure category, with five figures upfront just for the Treatment. And I owe it all to everything I've learned from studying Robert McKee, supplemented by what I learned from everyone else. Over the past thirty years, I’ve studied with forty plus instructors and highlighted hundreds of books and listened to dozens of recorded seminars. All that information is summed up and thoroughly explained in Robert McKee's two books STORY and now DIALOGUE. I won't live long enough to absorb everything he teaches. And I still study two hours a day as a warm up for my writing. I’d recommend Aaron Sorkin, Warner Hertzog, William Goldman (both Sorkin and McKee say he's the greatest), Blake Synder, Chris Vogler, Michael Hauge, William Akers, and anybody else you can find who’s willing to share their knowledge. Because you never know when a concept you didn’t realize you didn’t understand or needed is going to show up. Especially when presented from a different perspective. Having said that, if you are serious, and I mean dead serious, about becoming a working screenwriter, or any other kind of fiction writer for that matter, then you have no choice but to study McKee like your literary life depends on it. Buy the hardcover, buy the Kindle version, and buy the audio version of DIALOGUE and STORY. And supplement these two works with any other material that speaks to you. If you do this, you will become a first class screenwriter or novelist or playwright, because all three genres are only different ways of presenting a Story. If you can’t commit to this, unless you’re a genius or prodigy, you’re wasting valuable time which could be spent following your true life calling. But if your heart’s desire is to become a working writer, then sooner or later you’ll have to know everything in McKee’s two books. So, you might as well bite the bullet and jump in head first. It's all right here in STORY and DIALOGUE. All of it. Thank you, Mr. McKee. You, sir, changed my life.-- Jimmy Hager 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful ONE OF THE TWO BEST BOOKS ON SCREENWRITING, This review is from: Dialogue: The Art of Verbal Action for Page, Stage, and Screen (Hardcover) Probably the best book on screenwriting ever (besides Egri), though there is also much here for the novelist and playwright. I am a professional TV writer, of long-standing (35 years), and I can tell you I used this book to figure out how to fix the problems of a complex pilot I'm writing; the author truly " guided me home." And lest you think I'm a McKee sycophant, I am not. I found little in STORY for me. The only thing I disagree with in DIALOGUE is that the author sells his own work short: it isn't just for those who are "lost" in their writing, like me, and the student, it's for anyone who writes fiction for a living, in any form, no matter how much experience they have. It's that good. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Read it once in about 3 days, going through the highlights again already, this one is an investment, not a purchase., This review is from: Dialogue: The Art of Verbal Action for Page, Stage, and Screen (Kindle Edition) Excellent supplement to 'Story' - with examples of speech from popular stories that really drive home the content. It shows how to immerse dialogue into your scene(s) to give the words more meaning, and in a tension-raising-cycle, turn and give the scene itself more impact. I enjoy writing dialogue more with this better perspective of what to look for, and what questions to ask before giving my characters words. This is a book that will get multiple re-reads for reference and increase in understanding as I look to improve my craft and skill-set. Thanks Robert and company! |

Art Garfunkel: In Close-Up
Blessed with a voice that The New York Times has described as a "beautiful countertenor," singer Art Garfunkel has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel for nearly 50 years.
Blessed with what the New York Times described as a "beautiful countertenor," singer ART GARFUNKEL has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. He has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry and released 12 solo albums, the most recent being SOME ENCHANTED EVENING in 2007.
Since then, he has been busy as a husband and father to his two sons, 26-year-old James and 10-year-old Beau Daniel. He is also an avid walker who has walked across Japan, the US (celebrated in the 1997 concert DVD ACROSS AMERICA) and now Europe.
GARFUNKEL was originally revered for his Grammy-winning, chart-topping songs and albums with partner and fellow NYC native Paul Simon. Their greatest hits collection, which includes "Mrs. Robinson," "Scarborough Fair," "The Sound Of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," among others, is one of the biggest selling album ever.
After Simon & Garfunkel parted ways in 1970, GARFUNKEL landed several major film roles, including "Carnal Knowledge" (opposite Jack Nicholson), "Catch 22" and Nicholas Roeg's "Bad Timing/A Sensual Obsession." His solo debut ANGEL CLARE spawned the top 10 hit "All I Know." His other solo albums include BREAKAWAY ('75; features the hit "I Only Have Eyes For You"), WATERMARK ('78; featuring "[What A] Wonderful World" with James Taylor and Paul Simon), FATE FOR BREAKFAST ('79), SCISSORS CUT ('81), THE ANIMALS' CHRISTMAS ('86), LEFTY ('88), GARFUNKEL (greatest hits, '88), UP TILL NOW ('93), ACROSS AMERICA ('97), SONGS FROM A PARENT TO A CHILD ('97), EVERYTHING WAITS TO BE NOTICED ('03), SOME ENCHANTED EVENING ('07) and THE SINGER (2012).
The late '80s brought two new challenges for GARFUNKEL: he published Still Water, a collection of poetry in '89, and began an amazing trek across America--on foot. But the '80s and '90s found GARFUNKEL doing what he does best: singing for an audience. "Taking on the fear and vulnerability of a live show keeps you vital," says GARFUNKEL, who relishes the opportunity to perform new and classic material for fans around the world. "I'm a singer trying to get away with a lucky job. I try to soothe, to lift...That's my life."
GARFUNKEL earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia College, majoring in Art History; later he earned his Masters degree in Architecture at Columbia University. He lives in New York City with his wife Kim. GARFUNKEL is an avid reader and has chronicled every book he's read since June 1968 on his website–-1,227 in all.
