3LAU HAUS | Lawrence

3LAU HAUS | Lawrence
All Ages

3LAU approaches electronic dance music from an unexpected angle. The artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and entrepreneur born Justin Blau usually begins his compositions on the piano.

"Everything typically starts on the piano," he affirms. "I like to create the framework for a song traditionally and then add the electronics later."

It's a style he's been cultivating since childhood. Commencing piano lessons at the age of three, he'll tell you that he couldn't go to sleep without classical music as a kid. His tastes would veer towards the likes of Radiohead and Sigur Ros in high school as he taught himself guitar, bass, and drums. During his sophomore year of college, he took a trip to Sweden and fell in love with electronic dance music. Upon returning home, 3LAU began creating.

"I was so inspired by that trip," he says. "I realized the possibilities within the genre, and I started making mashups bringing together well-known pop vocals and dance beats."

Leaving college in his junior year, he became a favorite on the club scene through relentless touring, initially turning heads with those innovative mashups. His 2013 original single "Escape" established his profile further. Generating 30 million-plus total streams, "How You Love Me" [feat. Bright Lights] dominated radio and closed out 2014 as SiriusXM BPM's "Most Played Record of the Year." Along the way, he'd garner support from the likes of Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, and many more. However, he wanted to do more with music, so he launched Blume—the "first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement."

"Everybody treats music as a business," he sighs. "I wanted to put the focus back on the music itself and do something good with it."

His first single for Blume, "Is It Love" [feat. Yeah Boy], introduces the label, the movement, and a new sound. Coupling together a big room hook and entrancing production, the song racked up 2 million streams in less than a month. Meanwhile, the proceeds from its sales and streams supported the educational nonprofit Pencils of Promise (PoP)—which enables the construction of schools in developing countries. Pencils of Promise is just the first charity collaboration as 3LAU will diversify Blume's impact in the charitable world with each subsequent release.

Blume begins a bold, bright, and big new chapter for 3LAU and electronic dance music at large.

"THE BLACK WIDOW" Builders: Wally Olson (1952), Bill Scott (1954) and Richard Riddell (2005) The garage find of the century! How long have you been hot rodding cars--since the 1950's? Many of us got started in the 50's and 60's. (For you real old birds out there that remember hot rodding "T" roadsters with Roto-Faze ignitions, Ruxtell 2-speed rear axles, Riley 2-port heads and Laurel lowering kits, well what can we say you're a generation before us and we take our hats off to you 'original' hot rodders.) BUT for all of us "The Black Widow" is a serious piece of 1950's hot rodding annals and a benchmark for the industry! In an article in Hot Rod Deluxe, July 2008 entitled, "Tangled Web" the full-story of Richard Riddell's quest to restore the original Black Widow had its public debut. Hot Rod Deluxe reported the car's winning the 2008 Grand National Roadster Show which was a dream come true, taking "Best Early Altered T Roadster". (See also Rod and Custom, June 2008.) It was also a contender for the Bruce Meyer award at the 'Grand Nats.' Why do guys like Richard Riddell (and the rest of us) spend years (3400 hours in Richard's case) restoring a car we found in a barn? Answer: 'For the love of the sport!' All of us remember some other cars with similar names, for instance the 'Black Widow' Monogram model car ("1/24 scale model/Ford 'T' Pickup Rod/removable top" by Mattel quality hobby kits). Also, we remember General Motors/Chevrolet coming out in 1957 with their first racing version Chevy called "The Black Widow." But predating both of these historic cars is the "The Black Widow" built by Wally Olson to help keep his kids out of trouble in 1952 and first débuted in Hot Rod magazine, September 1954 in an article entitled, "Lil' Beau T", which read, "Wally Olson, Fresno, California, automotive machinist, is the lucky owner and builder. Duane Taylor was called in for the body work." It added as to why he built the car, "What with so much current upheaval in the teen-age ranks, Wally figured that a sure-fire way to eliminate those free-time, nothing-to-do troubles would be to interest them (his 9 and 12 year old sons) in a rod. So far the idea has worked like a charm." In time the family moved on to other projects and Bill Scott purchased the car and redid it with fenders, headlights and all the stuff to make it 'street legal'—as we used to call it! The first documentation of the car being called "Black Widow" is found in the magazine Rodding and Re-styling, August 1957 issue. That article reported Bill Scott's changes to Wally Olson's car, "The front end was revised to incorporate a tubular axle and tube shocks. The new owners also equipped the car with a new power plant. The original mill is a '41 Merc bored out .100 inch over stock, ported and relieved…includes 8.5-to-1 Offenhauser heads, a Weber full-race cam, and an Evans 3-caberator manifold." [Note: The several engines that were housed in this car later varied; see final Merc build details below.] Don't you love the sound of that "ported and relieved" and "full-race cam"—when's the last time you used those terms? By the time the 1959 Hot Rod Annual was published the car-title stuck for all time "The Black Widow." Riddell's 2-Year Renovation! According to long time race car builder Richard Riddell's log he states, "Sometime in 1955 Wally sold his roadster to Bill Scott. Bill again called on Duane Taylor to turn the car into a bonified street rod. With the additional of windshield, head lights, tail lings, and fenders it was finally able to jump into his little Hot Rod and go crusin'. The pin stripping was done by none other than Dean Jefferies with the familiar cobweb and spider on the turtle deck." He reports that the car's first win was "…a five foot trophy at the Sacramento AutoRama in 1957 for 'Best Roadster'. Yes, Bill's car was having the time of its life being one of the best looking early California street roadsters of all time." Richard states, "Bill Scott died around 1987...for several years the car languished…getting worse and worse…as is so often the case for old Hot Rods." The garage find in 2005 notes, "At a glance the roadster didn't look that bad." But the Naugahyde and carpet were shot, fenders, original wheels and hub caps to name a few problems for the yet to begin restoration. Riddell notes, "Under a somewhat decent body and paint job lurked a mess that went beyond your worst nightmare." He adds, "I began wondering how I could salvage this little beauty in the rough. Not that many people have restored an old Hot Rod but, those who have know what I'm talking about. It's much harder than building a rod from scratch. But the roadster was begging to be restored and I'm glad that I was chosen to do it."and#9472;Richard died shortly after finishing the project but happily he was able to see "The Black Widow" win the 'Grand Nats' and have a feature center-spread article in Hot Rod Deluxe. Here are a few of the Riddell-engineered refinements to this original car. and#61692; Recessed pockets had to be built in the frame rails to accept the front motor mounts which double as water pumps. and#61692; New front radius rods were built out of heavy wall chrome-moly tubing. The original ones were so poorly made that they were unsafe. and#61692; The correct master cylinder banjo fitting was not available so, he fabricated a new one from scratch. and#61692; The tooling mandral had to be CNC machined to facilitate metal spinning new brass tail pipe end bells. Hey would you agree? Hot rodding is an art form and some Hot Rod Artists have mastered the craft and Richard Riddell is one of them!!! Reconstruction points of interest: and#61656; Original steel body and doors welded shut and#61656; '42 Merc 274 c.i flathead (current engine) and#61656; '39 Lincoln-Zephyr tranny and#61656; '34 Ford rear with Halibrand quick-change center and enclosed drive shaft and#61656; '39 Ford hydraulic brakes all around and wide "5" 16-iunch wheels and caps and#61656; '37 Ford tube axle and#61656; Engine by RPM Machine and#61656; Chrome by Ace Plating and#61656; Frame done by Capps Powder Coat and#61656; Body/paint by Showtime Customs and#61656; Upholstery by Brents Why is the car being sold? To quote his wife Pat, "Unfortunately, Richard passed away on March 18, 2008 and will not get to enjoy seeing the new owner drive away with a piece of automotive history." Richard's loyal wife Pat grew up around racing since she was 9 years old. Her maiden name was Rodriguez. If you grew up at Lion's Dragstrip, as she did, you may remember her father's rail? He and his brother ran an old top alky rail under the name "Rodriguez Brothers". Pat said, 'As I was growing up I often wondered how I would ever meet someone to marry, since all that our family ever did was go to the drags. Then one day Richard came along and met me at the Winternationals.' Well the rest is history. For Pat after Richard's death there are just too many memories attached to all the memorabilia, race cars and hot rods in their storage—she would like to sell "The Black Widow" to some deserving hot rodder. Black Uhuru

Black Uhuru
with ONESTY
Reggae's First Grammy Winning Band returns to Sweetwater for an evening of true roots reggae. The roots of BLACK UHURU were formed in Kingston Jamaicas Waterhouse district also known as Firehouse in the early 60s. Though considered to be one of Jamaicas toughest neighborhoods its home to several other reggae singers and musicians. It was where Duckie Simpson grew up and learned to sing from boyhood friends Winston Pipe Matthews and Lloyd Bread McDonald of Wailing Souls and Bob Marley. He recorded four tracks with Wailing Souls before forming his own group. The original Uhurus (Swahili for freedom) were Derrick Duckie Simpson, Euvin Don Carlos Spencer and Rudolph Garth Dennis. They only recorded a few singles Folk Songs Time Is On Our Side and Slow Coach before separating. Don went solo and Garth joined Wailing Souls.Duckie reformed the group adding Michael Rose & Errol Tarzan Nelson, both from Waterhouse. They recorded their debut album Love Crises in 1977 at Prince Jammys famous studio in Waterhouse on St. Lucia Road. It was later re-released as Black Sounds Of Freedom. Errol later left to join The Jayes. He was soon replaced by American female singer & dancer Sandra Puma Jones. They teamed up with drummer Sly Dunbar and bass player Robbie Shakespeare. Together they developed a musical style full of deep bass thumps, loud drum slaps, sharp keyboards, long instrumentals with guitar riffs, whirly back round noises, echos and the signaturewoh oh ohs creating theyre classic sound. Producing hits like I Love King Sellassie, Shine Eye Gals, General Penitentary and What is Life.BLACK UHURU released the albums Red, Chill Out, Sensemila and Guess Whos Coming To Dinner and began to tour the world bringing them to international audiences. It was during this period they started to gain rapid popularity. They opened live shows for the Rolling Stones and the Police. They began to work with other well accomplished producers and musicians. Keith Richards played guitar for the Shine Eye Gal track. Dennis Brown The Crown Prince of Reggae produced the tracks Rent Man and Wood For My Fire. The track Spongi Reggae appeared on an episode of The Bill Cosby Show and Party in Session in the movie 1980s North Shore. BLACK UHURU made reggae history when they won the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music in 1984 for the album Anthem Shortly after the grammy Michael Rose went solo. Another Waterhouse resident named Delroy Junior Reid became the new lead singer. They released two albums Brutal and Positive. The Brutal album was nominated for a grammy. They filmed three music videos for the tracks Fire City Brutal, and Great Train Robbery, that track also played on a popular video game Grand Theft Auto. Sadly in 1990, due to ill health, Sanda Puma Jones passed away of cancer. Junior Reid shortly went solo. Then the original three re-united. They released four albums Now, Iron Storm, Mystical Truth and Strong. Each album was nominated for grammy. They made an award winning music video for the track Tip Of The Iceberg featuring rap star Ice-T in 1992. Eventually splitting up again. Carlos & Dennis left again & Duckie stayed again. This time there was a lawsuit brought amongst the group over the bands legal rights in Los Angeles county court. Derrick Simpson won.As the new melenium approached there came a new lead singer yet again from Waterhouse named Andrew Bees Beckford. They released two albums. Unification was produced by King Jammy & Dynasty was produced by Fitzroy Francis & Duckie. International studies

These are the final days of the genuine Dharma taught by the Buddha. The Buddha's teachings will continue to exist in their natural condition for just over a thousand more years.

I have talked about the good teachings
Of our most loving teacher and the Arhats.
Other people, learned authors of explanatory works,
Land Lords, translators,
And people accustomed to good sayings
Have already,
As if they were the sun,
Shone forth these teachings without error.

Few people talk about the Sage's words these days.
When they do talk about them
It's only because they want attention.
Most people hate the teachings.

Some people get into [the teachings],
But they prefer to denigrate them.
They turn against what they have studied.
They turn the teachings,
Which are better than gold,
Into antiques.
These people are tortured by emotional illness,
But they don't use medicine.
Kye Ma'o, the pain is really frightening.
Kye Ma'o, what a waste.
We reach out to give medicine,
But we can't do it all.
We have to keep trying
To reveal the purpose of this life
For what it is.

Presently,
The gardens in central [India] are growing heretics.
A lot of the teachings in this snowy mountain range
Are mere similitudes of the Dharma.
The evil doing kings in these frontiers
Are destroying the libraries.
Kyi Hud! They are destroying the teachings.
I'm starting to get serious, right now.

I say these things, but very few listen to me.
In an effort to cut through my exacerbating this
In my own mind
I have quit with talking
So that I can just do this.
It might not turn out to help everyone,
But I want to contemplate the good teachings for myself.
If a few people hear what I say it will help them.
These are the final days of the teachings.
This is what I am doing in them.

By the merit there is in composing this
Admission at the Dharma's Gate
May living beings enter it!
May they reach the peaks of the tenth level!

The layman Sonam Tsemo, whose intellect is difficult to fathom, wrote this work: Admission at Dharma's Gate. It is well written. It is finished.

Kris Kristofferson

Kris Kristofferson

Kris Kristofferson has been making things happen his entire life. Born in Texas and raised in a military family, he was a Golden Gloves boxer who studied creative writing at Pomona College in California. The Phi Beta Kappa graduate earned a Rhodes scholarship to study literature at Oxford, where he boxed, played rugby and continued to write songs. After graduating from Oxford, Kristofferson served in the army as an Airborne Ranger helicopter pilot and achieved the rank of Captain. In1965, Kristofferson turned down an assignment to teach at West Point and, inspired by songwriters like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, moved to Nashville to pursue his music. When I was in the army, I was one of the few people outside of his personal friends who knew about Willie Nelson, Kristofferson recalls. I listened to a disc jockey who happened to be a Willie fan. He would play Willies songs and talk about him all the time. By the time I got to Nashville, he was a superhero to me. For guys like me, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson were two gods we worshipped. Then Willie and I got to be best friends. I came from a position of idolizing him to finding out hes the funniest son of a bitch you could be around. After struggling in Music City for several years, Kristofferson achieved remarkable success as a country songwriter at the start of the 1970s. His songs "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Sunday Morning Coming Down," and "For the Good Times," all chart-topping hits, helped redefine country songwriting. By 1987, it was estimated that more than 450 artists had recorded Kristoffersons compositions. His renown as a songwriter triggered Kristoffersons successful career as a performer and that, in turn, brought him to the attention of Hollywood, leading to his flourishing career as a film actor. Kristofferson has acted in more than 70 films. In 1977 He won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in A Star Is Born. Hes appeared in cult favorites including the Blade trilogy, Lone Star, A Soldiers Daughter Never Cries, Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore, Blume In Love, Cisco Pike, and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Recent films include Fast Food Nation, Dreamer: Inspired By A True Story, The Jacket, Silver City, Hes Just Not That In To You, and Dolphin Tale.Heralded as an artists artist, the three-time GRAMMY winner has recorded 28albums, including three with pals Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings as part of the Highwaymen. Kristofferson has spent three decades performing concerts all over the world, in most recent years in a solo acoustic setting, which puts the focus on the songs. Theres an honesty in the sparseness. It feels like direct communication to the listener, he says. I still have more fun when Im with the band, but being alone is freer, somehow. Its like being an old blues guy, just completely stripped away. Kristofferson has reached living legend status, but that hasnt changed or hindered his creativity. His current CD, Feeling Mortal contains eleven gems that explore love, gratitude, aging, and his ever-present theme of freedom. If you took freedom out of the songs, youd have very few Kristofferson songs, he laughs. In addition to many other awards, Kristofferson is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, winner of the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriter Hall of Fame, and was honored with the American Veterans Associations Veteran of the Year Award in 2002. For Kristoffersons 70thbirthday in 2006, his friends and admirers gifted him with a tribute CD, The Pilgrim: A Celebration of Kris Kristofferson. Stars including Willie Nelson, Russell Crowe, Emmylou Harris, Gretchen Wilson, Rosanne Cash, and Brian McKnight recorded 17 of Kristoffersonscompositions for the tribute. In 2007, Kristofferson was honored with the Johnny Cash Visionary Award from Country Music Television and in 2009 BMI lauded Kristofferson with the Icon Award.Hereceivedthe Frances Preston Music Industry Award from the T.J. Martell Foundation in March, 2012. In 2014, Kristofferson was honored witha GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and the PEN Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Award

New Children's Book "Mama Stitches" Offers Message of Love and Community

New Britain, CT (USA), June 22nd, 2016 -- The latest book from the awarding winning house of Halo Publishing International is Akintunde "Tunde" Sogunro's book Mama Stitches: To Cover with Love. Mama Stitches is the first book in a series of original stories about how a mother dog, her puppies and their owner sew clothes for the homeless and cover them with love. Beautifully illustrated by former Disney artist, Chad Thompson, this story shares a message of love and acceptance, of generosity and community; perfect for reading aloud to your children.

"I wanted to create a story about the importance of love to be shared with children who may or may not feel supported and encouraged at home," said author, Tunde. "I believe everyone is born with a voice but as we grow and experience pain in life we begin to wear masks and lose touch with our voice, identity and dream. As Mama Stitches says: "Everyone has a story and a song in their heart. I love to listen close and sew them just what they need!

"My hope is that, as children fall in love with Mama Stitches, they will fall in love with reading and subsequently show love to the homeless and needy in their community. It is the love, literacy and community movement," said Tunde. "Let's start a love revolution!"

As part of that desire to unite a community, Tunde has been working over the past several months to bring together libraries, churches, government officials and families for the Mama Stitches 5,000 Back-to-School Book Release Block Party where the vision is to provide 5,000 copies of Mama Stitches to 5,000 children and collect 5,000 articles of clothing for the homeless.

This will be the debut event of Cover With Love (www.coverwithlove.org), a new non-profit that partners with other organizations such as Reality Outreach Unlimited, Coram Deo, Family Promise for the Homeless and Paradym Inc, that is dedicated to showcasing the radical power of unconditional Agape love to the world!

"The message of "cover with love" in Tunde's book Mama Stitches is so joyful," said Lisa Umina, founder and president of Halo Publishing. "Tunde's passion for building community through this message of love and literacy is inspiring and I hope everyone will have a chance to read this clever story. I imagine many will relate to Mama Stitches' pup Little Mama who wants to be good but takes a little bit longer to understand the benefits of giving back. It is fun to watch her grow to be filled with the community spirit."

The Mama Stitches 5,000 Back-to-School Book Release Block Party is schedule for August 20, 2016 from 10am-2pm. Utilizing the totality of the historic Trinity-On-Main performing Arts Center, (located at 69 Main Street, New Britain, Ct 06051), there will be story-telling, face painting, caricature drawing, games, "Dunk the Major" with New Britain Mayor, Erin Stewart and puppy petting. Admission to the event is a donation of clothing. Business or organizations interested in ensuring inner city children are introduced to Mama Stitches' love, can pre-order copies of Mama Stitches on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. They may also sponsor special edition copies of Mama Stitches for inner city and DCF foster care children by contacting Tunde directly at tundedriven2inspire@gmail.coim

"We want to create an idea that will last and the message of Mama Stitches is just that," said Tunde. "What better way than to share the message of "cover with love" at an old fashioned block party where the entire community comes together. Our goal is to have 5,000 copies Mama Stitches: To Cover with Love sponsored so that the children of Greater New Britain and Greater Hartford areas can receive a free copy for their own enjoyment."

The Mama Stitches Movement has just received exciting endorsements from countless public figures including Nancy Serra, Superintendent of New Britain Public Schools, Mayor Erin Stewart, and award winning author Catherine Gibson. To learn more, visit www.mamastitches.com and www.coverwithlove.org . Mama Stitches: To Cover with Love is available to pre-order at Amazon and Barnes and Noble; $ 21.95 in hardcover.

Get Online Tutoring From Grace Simpkins Personal Tutors

There are a number of tutoring options available for students who are struggling in school. The key to finding the right type of tuition teacher tutoring is to determine the best learning style for the student who needs tutoring. Some people, especially ones who need university tutoring, can study very well on their own. They simply need someone to help explain the information more adequately. Others, however, need someone to watch over them and their learning more directly. Each learner should evaluate his or her learning style in the context of the various types of tutoring options available.

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring works for people who are independent learners. This type of tutoring works in a couple of ways. In the easiest way, someone signs up for a service and is assigned to a specific tutor. The student and tutor determine the best times to meet and then do so using a video chat. Other types of online tutoring allow students to log in when they need help and ask a pool of qualified tutors. One of these tutors then will provide an answer. This type of tutoring is more convenient for students who just need homework help or encouragement, but it is a bit more difficult to know the quality of the specific tutor who will answer a question.

Teachers as Tutors

Teachers often work additional hours as paid tutors for students who need extra help. While the tuition teachers receive for this type of work varies, depending on the geographic and subject areas. Teachers who are able to provide specialized tutoring in literature and high-level math can command a much higher fee than teachers who are providing more generalized help

Teachers are a good choice for tutors when students need extensive one-on-one help and particularly if the student is likely to be someone who does not want to pay attention. While a peer tutor can be less expensive, he or she may not be able to get the student's attention in the same way as an adult can. Hiring a teacher as a tutor usually means using word of mouth to put out that you are looking for a tutor, and it can take a while to find someone.

Other Students as Tutors

University tutoring often is done by other students although students also may work with younger students. For people who need tutoring but are generally on top of their studies, a student tutor, or peer tutor, can be a good choice. These tutors are far less expensive than the online or teacher options, and they often are more flexible. Especially at the university level, students often have many hours outside of the classroom, and the students only need to determine the best time slots from their schedules.

Grace Simpkins Australia have highly skilled Personal Tutors who will help your child to achieve their goals. Visit our Learning Centres online at www.personaltutors.com.au.

An Evening With Pat Metheny

An Evening With Pat Metheny
PAT METHENY was born in Lee's Summit, MO on August 12, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, receiving valuable on-the bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility -a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. With the release of his first album, Bright Size Life (1975), he reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny's versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. Over the years, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny's body of work includes compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre.
As well as being an accomplished musician, Metheny has also participated in the academic arena as a music educator. At 18, he was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than twenty years later (1996). He has also taught music workshops all over the world, from the Dutch Royal Conservatory to the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to clinics in Asia and South America. He has also been a true musical pioneer in the realm of electronic music, and was one of the very first jazz musicians to treat the synthesizer as a serious musical instrument. Years before the invention of MIDI technology, Metheny was using the Synclavier as a composing tool. He also has been instrumental in the development of several new kinds of guitars such as the soprano acoustic guitar, the 42-string Pikasso guitar, Ibanez's PM series jazz guitars, and a variety of other custom instruments.
It is one thing to attain popularity as a musician, but it is another to receive the kind of acclaim Metheny has garnered from critics and peers. Over the years, Metheny has won countless polls as "Best Jazz Guitarist" and awards, including three gold records for (Still Life) Talking, Letter from Home, and Secret Story. He has also won 20 Grammy Awards spread out over a variety of different categories including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition at one point winning seven consecutive Grammies for seven consecutive albums. In 2015 he was inducted into the Downbeat Hall of Fame, becoming only the fourth guitarist to be included (along with Django Reinhardt, Charlie Chrisitan and Wes Montgomery) and it's youngest member. Metheny has spent much of his life on tour, often doing more than 100 shows a year since becoming a bandleader in the 70's. At the time of this writing, he continues to be one of the brightest stars of the jazz community, dedicating time to both his own projects and those of emerging artists and established veterans alike, helping them to reach their audience as well as realizing their own artistic visions.
