CEMI Fall 2016 W-01 Orientation for Ministry: Structures of the Institutional Church This workshop provides a basis for helping the participants of all ministries understand the place of their particular ministry in the Church. It examines the theological meaning of Church and its Hierarchical Structure as found in the Church Universal, National, Local (Diocesan), and Parish levels. (1½ hours) Rev. Michael A. What "lens" should we use to help us navigate through the maze of challenging perspectives? This course explores the scriptural and traditional foundations of the Church's Moral Teaching, its development through the ages, moral decision-making and conscience formation.  (8 hours - 4 sessions)  Paul J. The "what" I believe is simple enough to answer, "It is the "how" which is critical to self-understanding and to the life-giving tension between the believer and the Church, the individual and the community. Using James Fowler's model of stages, nuanced by psychology (Erickson) and morality (Kohlberg), we will explore our inexhaustible journey of trusting faith. (4 hours - 1 session) Rev. Michael A. This course looks at the scriptural basis of our Catholic Social Justice Teaching, as well as the important writings of the Popes and Church Councils. The course will also address the issue of how we, as individuals and a community are called to live Jesus' message in the social and economic arena. (8 hours - 4 sessions)  Paul J. Although the author used Mark's Gospel as a source, he often quoted from the Old Testament to show how Jesus fulfilled all God had promised in the past. With Advent we move into the new Church Year and weekly we will hear Matthew's Gospel proclaimed at Sunday Mass. Come explore this interesting gospel and find out how Matthew continues to challenge us today. (8 hours - 4 sessions) Dr. Lorraine S. DeLuca, Director  Wednesdays, October 26, November 2, 9, 16, 2016 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Saint Anne, Beaumont (Parish Hall)    W-121  How to Begin Evangelization in a Catholic Parish:  Preparing Teams/Committees to Share the Good News  Based on the Paulist Evangelization Ministries material, this is a series that will be facilitated to help parishes form teams and committees for reaching out as Evangelizing Catholics. Each of the sessions will spend time going through Fr. Frank DeSiano's book The Evangelizing Catholic and viewing a short DVD in order to consider how Catholics can become activate participants in The New Evangelization. Evangelization has important goals. It involves not only the renewal of the Catholic people, but also reaching those people who are on the edges of faith, or who have no faith for all practical purposes. Reach out and connect the parents more closely to the parish. This training will prepare parishioners to go out, visit the parents of the newly baptized, and share what the parish means to them and keep the connection going. DeLuca, Director, Evangelization and Catechesis (in English) Jesus Abrego, Hispanic Ministry (in Spanish) Monday, September 26, 2016 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Port Arthur (Parish Hall)   W-120 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Spending Time with Christ  What does Eucharistic Adoration mean in the life of the Church and in the life of the people of God?  What does the Church teach about Eucharistic Adoration?  What should take place during Adoration and what should not?  Whether your parish is considering beginning Adoration, or has this practice in place, if you now participate in Adoration, or if are seeking more information before becoming involved in this ministry, this workshop will include how the Church values Eucharistic Adoration, teaches and instructs through its documents what every adorer needs to know, and the guidelines concerning parish Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. (2 hours - 1 session)  Rosalind Sanchez, Director, Office of Worship Tuesday, September 27, 2016 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Catholic Pastoral Center, Beaumont (Assembly Hall)     C-03 Introduction to Liturgy, the Prayer and Worship of God's People   (Note:  This is one of the pre-requisites for entering Deacon Formation.) This 5-week workshop will focus on the Mass as the center of the life of the Church, the Eucharist as the center of the Mass, with an in-depth look at the theology and history of the parts of the Mass and how they form one continuous prayer that shapes the lives of Christians.  We will look at the Church's Year—the Liturgical Year—what it is and what it means, explore the Liturgy of the Hours, examine the various ministries of the Mass and who does what, briefly examine some of the liturgical documents that guide the Church in its celebration of Mass and the Sacraments.  Finally, we will discuss specific sections of a video by Father Edward Foley, "Encountering the Mystery, an Overview of Eucharistic Theology."  Our final evening will be a summary and review and time for Q&A.
