Homeschool Art Classes | Term 3, 2016
The theme for this term is QUALITY CONTROL. Homeschool students will be shown how to plan and develop their artworks from sketches to paintings and from concepts to techniques; with a focus on each student's unique style. At the end of the term there will then be a public showing of the work, curated and installed by the students themselves. *Homeschool Art Classes are being moved to Tuesdays Fortnightly 1 - 3pm with a minimum of 10 per class and a max of 15. If this class fills up and there is enough interest for an additional class than this will held in the same time slot on the alternative monday. ................................................................................................................................................................................................ Tues 19 July | SKETCHY BUSINESS This week students will be discussing use of their own unique 'technique' and 'style' in their drawings. One sketch will then be picked out to be developed into a 'major work' painting.*students are required to bring in 10 of their previous drawings to be discussed by the group. Outcomes: Increased ability to critically analyse students own and others work. Increased ability to discern the quality of art materials. Ability to plan scale of major works and to stretch out and prime a canvas. Tues 2 August |  MAJOR PAIN(TING) Continuing on from Week 1, Students will now be turning their drawings into larger scale paintings. Particular attention will be given to capturing the 'essence' of a sketch.*students are required to bring in a canvas bigger than the students original sketch. The canvas can be old or even used as long as the frame is intact because we are going to start again. Outcomes: Understanding of simple grid techniques that can be used to increase 'scale' without compromising 'proportion'. increased understanding of colour theory and the importance of 'lighting' and 'background'. Increased understanding of when to speed up, slow down and stop in painting. Tues 16 August | SEARCH In continuing this terms theme of 'how to make a major work'. Students will be learning how to practically use 'research' to develop art 'concepts'. They will then be using sketches and an action plan to chose what and how they will be making their artwork in the following week.*students are required to bring in a page of information and ten images on a topic they would like to turn into an artwork (e.g. trees, eyes, dogs etc). Outcomes: increased ability to practically move from research into artmaking. increased ability to plan and justify artmaking processes, including additional research and materials needed. Tues 30 August | MAKE This week students will be applying their sketches and art plans to produce an artwork. In this process students will be encouraged to consider studio practice and practical methods to consider others creative processes. We will then be documenting our work and planning the 'marketing' for our forthcoming show and next week's installation process. Outcomes: flexibility around and evaluation of plans. increased responsibility through options to choose materials and control workspace.understanding around the importance of documentation/ journaling/ marketing. Friday 16 September | SHOW This week students will learn about curatorship and installation within the gallery context as they consider how viewers might experience their work both individually and as a group show. They will then be given an opportunity to place their work within the SIDE GALLERY space to be exhibited and launched that Saturday with family and friends invited to attend.*students are to have emailed the facilitator all titles and artist statements about their work prior to this date. Gold coin donation may be inquired for entry to account for launch's' refreshment costs. Outcomes: a practical understanding of curatorial and fine art installation processes as well as key roles in the gallery/museum context. increased awareness of how 'relationships' between artworks affect meaning within the gallery space. a personal/ first hand exhibition experience.
