Algorave @ODILeeds

Algorave @ODILeeds
As part of Leeds Digital Festival and as a lead into the Live at Leeds Festival, ODI Leeds is hosting Leeds Algorave curated by Alex McLean , curently artist in residence at ODI HQ. This will be held at our innovation space on the top floor of Munro House 7.30pm til late. "Live coders write computer programs live, while the programs generate their music, but the focus is on people dancing and seriously enjoying themselves" - Dazed & confused "Alexandra Cárdenas has no decks. Instead, she's working on a laptop. A projection behind shows about 20 lines of code, which she is toying with, stripping some away, modifying the parameters of others. The minimal techno starts piling up, reversing on itself. Complex rhythms emerge, fall away, then come back stronger, energising the crowd. Cárdenas is completely lost in the music. This is an "algorave", where humans dance to algorithms." - Wired Magazine "The scene at an algorave is often what you'd expect from any good techno night - a dark room, engaging visuals. a decent, bass-heavy speaker set-up, and lots of people ready to dance. .. performers at algoraves respond to each other and the audience in real time, often projecting the lines of code onto the walls as they type. lt's coding as improvisation and experiment.." - The Wire magazine // VISUALS RITUALS // manchester HELLOCATFOOD // birmingham CHEZ.IO // falmouth // AUDIO ALEXANDRA CARDENAS // berlin ANNY // nottingham BELISHA BEACON // leeds BENOIT AND THE MANDELBROTS // karlsruhe FOXDOT // leeds JOANNE // leeds REGGAETRON // mexico city SAM AARON // cambridge UIAESK! // newcastle YAXU // sheffield More info: http://algorave.com/ http://dazeddigital.com/blog/article/16150/1/what-on-earth-is-livecoding http://www.wired.co.uk/magazine/archive/2013/09/play/algorave http://toplap.org/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorave Hosted by ODI Leeds and part of Leeds Digital, supported by CePRA University of Leeds
