Penn Orthopaedics 2016 Cartilage Repair Symposium

Penn Orthopaedics 2016 Cartilage Repair Symposium
DATES: FRIDAY, APRIL 29 - SATURDAY, APRIL 30 Join us for a Clinical and Scientific Gathering Focused on the Cutting Edge of Cartilage Repair: Cellular Therapeutics for Advanced Cartilage Repair Featuring Keynote Speakers:  Lars Peterson, M.D., Ph.D., University of Gothenburg (Gothenburg, Sweden) James L. Cook, DVM, Ph.D, University of Missouri (Columbia, MO) Maurizio Pacifici, Ph.D., Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA) Target Audience: The symposium attracts orthopaedic surgeons, non-operative sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, nurses, and physician assistants to learn about the latest techniques in cartilage repair. With a focus on basic science, we also attract the best scientists and engineers to present their cutting edge work. In addition, we will be offering free admission for up to two (2) residents from the Orthopaedic Surgery programs at each of the major medical centers in the region. Statement of Need: The symposium will include invited talks by key thought leaders in the field of cartilage biology, biomaterials, stem cells, tissue engineering, animal models, and imaging, as well as clinical methods for the treatment of cartilage damage in the knee.  Speakers will also discuss rehabilitative protocols that promote successful recovery.  Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in hands on training in the most advanced repair techniques in the Human Tissue Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania.  The intent of this meeting is to build consensus, informed by clinical practice and basic and translational research, to define new directions in the field that will drive the treatment of cartilage injuries in the knee from the current status of repair towards the promise of regeneration.   Agenda Friday – April 29, 2016 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Registration and Continental Breakfast at Smilow Center for Translational Research 9:00 AM – 9:15 AM: Welcoming Remarks James L.
