Please note that Eventbrite has labeled the event as free because online payment is not required at the time of registration.   For questions regarding the events, please contact Iris Contreras 530-528-7303 icontreras@tehamaschools.org   Location: Red Bluff Community Center (Jan. 26, Jan. 27, Feb. 9, May 4)    Tehama County Department of Education  (April 6, May 11) Time: 8:30 AM - 3: 30 PM Cost Per Day: (includes materials, breakfast, and lunch) Registration Deadline: January 18, 2016 for Kate Kinsella events February 1, 2016 for Jennifer Finney-Ellison events Registration:  online via Eventbrite   Three-Day Institute  for 4-9 Instructional Staff and Administrators  Presented by: Dr. Kate Kinsella Dates: January 26th, January 27th, and May 4th This three-day institute addresses research-based instructional principles and classroom-tested instructional routines to support lesson engagement and academic language and literacy gains for English learners and under-resourced students.  Participants will learn how to:  1)  structure rigorous, accountable lesson interactions applying relevant academic language for critical CCSS competencies;  2)  integrate appropriate academic language targets throughout a unit;  3)  explicitly teach, model and structure adept application of language targets during a lesson;  4)  analyze text to determine vocabulary priorities;  5)  frontload major text concepts and explicitly teach high-utility words for text comprehension and constructed response;  6)  facilitate brief constructed verbal and written responses;  7)  monitor language use and provide constructive feedback. This three-day institute also addresses:  CCSS-aligned writing support for English learners, including appropriate writing models, explicit academic language and vocabulary instruction, accessible rubrics, and targeted rhetorical and grammatical lessons for specific writing types.   Three-Day Institute  for K-3 Instructional Staff and Administrators Presented by: Jennifer  Finney-Ellison  Dates: February 9th, April 6th, May 11th This three-day institute addresses research-based instructional principles and classroom-tested instructional routines to support lesson engagement and academic language and literacy gains for English learners and under-resourced students.  Participants will learn how to: 1)  structure rigorous, accountable lesson interactions applying relevant academic language for critical CCSS competencies; 2)  engage learners in academic interactions by structuring verbal engagement with brief written responses; 3)  set up, facilitate, and monitor inclusive and accountable student participation; 4)  monitor language use and provide constructive feedback; 5)  explicitly teach high-utility words using a research-based routine; 6)  construct response frames with relevant grammatical targets that guide accurate oral fluency. *The May 11th session is specifically for Grades 2-3 Instructional Staff. During the May 11th session, participants will learn ways to: develop academic oral language to leverage in applied writing tasks; utilize appropriate writing models, structure brief writing tasks to build competencies for longer responses; identify and teach high-utility vocabulary words and grammar lessons for specific writing types.   **The sessions on April 6th and May 11th will be held at Tehama County Department of Education (not the Red Bluff Community Center)
