Pop-up pages & moveable mechanisms is a full-day learning program will explore the art of paper engineering and the different mechanisms designed to create movement in texts. This program is facilitated by a Community Learning Educator. Suitable for classes: Year levels 4 to 10 Duration: 10am to 2pm (4 hours) Cost: Sessions are free but bookings are essential Note: up to 30 students per session This program was co-created with children and framed around the pop-up and moveable texts from the State Library's collection. Learners will explore the art of paper engineering and the different mechanisms designed to create movement in texts. Tools and materials will be provided by the State Library of South Australia free of charge. Students will investigate the purpose and features of paper engineering mechanisms design and make their own pop-up or moveable page visit the Mortlock Wing to investigate the role of the State Library in collecting, preserving and sharing the history and stories of South Australia. Curriculum Links Pop-ups and Paper is aligned with the Australian Curriculum highlighting the learning areas of Humanities and Social Sciences: History, The Arts: Visual Arts, Design and Technologies and the General capabilities of literacy, numeracy, critical and creative thinking. The program is underpinned by Teaching for Effective Learning principles and is facilitated by a Community Learning Educator.
