OPEN STUDIOS 2016: FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH & SATURDAY, APRIL 30TH AS PART OF THE CHARLOTTE STREET FOUNDATION STUDIO RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The annual Open Studios event welcomes the public into the studios of 15 visual artists and collectives, 6 performing artists & ensembles, and 3 writers, with an array of special LIVE performances and events
[Kansas City, MO] Charlotte Street Foundation's Studio Residency Program Open Studios Weekend is the program's largest annual event, hosting more than 500 visitors over two days. Through this unique event, the public is invited into the studios of Charlotte Street's Resident Artists for an intimate opportunity to interact with the artists in their working environments.
Open Studios Weekend 2016 will spotlight the work of over 20 artists—including 15 visual artists, 6 performing artists and ensembles, and 3 writers. All Artists-in-Residence have been awarded free studio space and related support through the Charlotte Street Studio Residency Program for the period of September, 2015—August, 2016.
Artist Studios will be open from 6PM to 10PM on Friday, April 29th with special offerings to include an array of original live music and dance performances on Friday evening. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Artwork will be available for purchase.
On Saturday, April 30th special events concurrent with the Studio Resident exhibition, The One Thing That Can Save America in Paragraph Gallery and Project Space will take place from 12:30PM to 5PM. Saturday offerings include a curatorial talk with Curator, Jessica Baran and studio residents at Paragraph Gallery starting at 12:30PM, followed by readings of new fiction and non-fiction by the writers-in-residence, a podcast listening party by residents, Paris of the Plains Podcast, and finish with live performances in Oppenstein Park.

6:00 BLACK BOX ROOM
Arnold Young & the Roughtet (featuring Patrick Alonzo Conway, Jack "Blackie" Blackett, John Nichols, Jeff Shirley, Jay Witzgall & Nick Howell) perform Young's recent original compositions based on Jazz, Funk, African music and other influences.
6:30 MULTI-PURPOSE AREA (SOUTH VISUAL STUDIOS)
Brian Padavic (featuring Ensemble of Irreproducible Outcomes members; Brian Padavic and David McIntire)
Perform two irreproducible, repeated one and half-hour performances. The duo (bass and sax/clarinet) will perform their original compositions accompanied with pre-recorded electronics. The parameters of each work are flexible with different outcomes each set.
7:00 DANCE ROOM
Amado Espinoza (featuring Maura Garcia, Karen Lisondra, Andres Ramirez, Arelis Flores and Dario Rugerio) present a sneak peek to their theatrical work-in-progress titled, "We are the Landscape" plus perform original music.
8:00 BLACK BOX ROOM
Shades of Jade (featuring special guests)
The neo-soul/jazz outfit debut the incorporation of laptop electronic production into their live set. This presentation will include audience participation to demonstrate the collective experience of composing music within a group while adding another color to their musical paintings. No musical experience needed.
9:00 BLACK BOX ROOM
MacKenzie Reed (featuring Rosemary Bloom, Allysha Woodson, and Martika) Present "Murder Ballad", a collaborative work-in-progress performance featuring hoop dancers accompanied by Reed's compositions. "Murder Ballad" showcases three distinct emotional stages a woman experiences after her husband murders her in her sleep.

Charlotte Street's Studio Residency Program, located in downtown Kansas City, MO, advances the organization's mission of challenging, nurturing and empowering artists of exceptional vision by providing free studio space, rehearsal space, and related support that enables exceptional visual artists, performing artists, and writers to advance their art practices and artistic careers.
